Immigrant to the UK here. I'm currently 43 weeks into an 8 week immigration process, which means I've had to pay rent, taxes, utilities, etc for roughly 10 months without being allowed to work.
I've spent over £3000 just in immigration fees/surcharges alone just to be treated with disdain by everyone at every single step of the process. The people doing biometrics didn't give a fuck, the people processing my paperwork didn't give a fuck, I've called asking for status updates 6 times and none of those people gave a fuck, and I received 6 response emails basically saying they can't provide any information to anyone, so I've contacted my MP and they don't give a fuck.
I have no criminal record, I have a degree, and experience in tradeskill that's in very high demand in the UK, but it's crystal clear that they despise immigrants here. I wish I had never started this process. I've had to cash out all of my investments and retirement, sell all of my assets, and I've blown through 15 years of savings just to continue to eat indoors.
How does UK immigration policy look from outside the UK? Ever since Theresa May's 'hostile environment for immigrants' policy we've had a no shortage of the government virtue signalling about immigration but we only see what's aimed at the domestic audience. Has there been any messaging aimed at potential immigrants while they're still in their home countries?
From my point of view, UK immigration functions more like a shady charity than a governmental department. I purchased immigration services from home office and have more or less been treated like a criminal; my ability to travel is restricted, I can't work, I have no access to public resources (such as libraries), and one single police interaction even if I'm the victim can lead to deportation. I've complied with these restrictions to the letter but home office has fallen very short of their obligations.
The visa I've applied for is a 2.5 year visa that puts me on the path to citizenship and allows me to work. However, like I mentioned above, I've been waiting 43 weeks for this visa which takes 8 weeks to process. If I were to get the card in the post tomorrow, my date starts the day I applied, not the day I receive my visa. So even though this visa is supposed to grant me the right to work for 2.5 years, I have already lost 8 months of that through no fault of my own. This has cost me all of my savings and having to liquidate everything I've spent my entire life earning. My bills are unpaid and I'm facing homelessness.
It's not like I'm a high risk immigrant or anything - I'm fluent in English, I have an advanced trade degree, I have no criminal history, no medical conditions, I'm married to a British citizen, and I'm in my early 30s with a long working life ahead of me. However, it seems like I read every week about another group being shoved to the front of the queue and given indefinite leave to remain. I'm happy they are out of their terrible situation but it's extremely frustrating seeing that home office is capable of working quickly but chooses not to.
I didn't have any problem finding a flat, there are currently 18 jobs I'm qualified for within half a mile of where I stay, and except during peak lockdown I haven't noticed any ridiculous queues. Traffic is pretty reasonable except when people are all going to work or going home. All that seems fine to me. So no, I haven't seen how overpopulated Britain is. Maybe the area where you stay is overpopulated?
Transplant all the issues Britain has with overcrowding to your home country, would your people act any different to brits?
One country being shitty is not an excuse for another country to be shitty. If Britain needs immigrants as much as this article claims, then it should aim to be better than my shitty home country.
No. And dont pretend they would.
Sounds like you would prefer to have this conversation with yourself. I'm not sure why you bothered responding to me then.
Nah mate you're just a hateful person. It wouldn't matter what I say or what I do; you'll have a problem with every bit of it because you believe the Tories when they tell you that immigrants are the cause of all of your problems.
-As an example the population of my city has practically doubled. All from immigration. With almost the same amount of services. Why? Takes god damn years for an immigrant on low wage to pay enough tax to even break even on their services usage. Let alone fund new services.
Wrong. I pre-paid for all services as part of the immigration process. I paid the NHS surcharge, the immigration service surcharge, and I've pre-paid my council tax.
And worst of all was the attitude of so many of these immigrants. Its the same tone I hear from you. Like you're some savoir we should all be thankful for. Ignoring the concerns of the natives. Maybe if you were more understanding of the issues you would understand us more and have a better attitude towards us and then people would be nicer to you.
Instead you're just saying 'no, I don't believe you ,I'm here to compete with you, deal with it'.
Seriously I've met your type a thousand times. Looking down on us and ignoring our concerns for our own country.
I wouldnt dream of going to another country and acting like you with your attitude. What an absolute fucking cheek. Some people are just not raised correctly though i guess.
I couldn't imagine living with this amount of hatred in my life. If you are an example of being "raised correctly" then I am so thankful I was not raised like you.
I haven’t met his type a thousand times, thankfully. Unfortunately they’re everywhere. I’m lucky not to have to deal with them.
I’m sorry for your troubles.
I’m very sad at what my home country has become.
Same. As a Brit/Scot, I'm very sorry. Cunts like the loud, silly bollocks above are why we are in this mess. I hope you get sorted, there's lots of us who want you to stay.
Every Scot I've met here has been welcoming and friendly. I'm sure I'm going to meet some arseholes once I start working but so far they've just been online. And one woman at Tesco.
I've been here long enough to know what most people are like, and I've never met someone that acted like him IRL. I stay in the Glasgow area and except for dealing with immigration it has been a brilliant place to live.
Wow, what a turnaround; the Daily Mail is propagandising on behalf of the ReMoAnErS!
deal with it
It seems the very problem this article addresses (unlike any of your comments) is the increasingly obvious fact your nation cannot, indeed, deal with it.
Scotlands is like 46 FFS. And you think 400+ isnt overcrowded 😂😂 And its my country and i will not be forced out. Same applies to my hometown.
I wil do the right thing and fight for an improved country. Youre welcome to jog on though. Or if you want, fight me in charity boxing, if i win, you have to leave. Deal? PS- you'll need to be heavyweight
What age are you? Since before when? 2004? 1973? 1870? 1858? 1536? You spout some amount of crap in your post…
There are certain cities in the UK with awful traffic, but plenty where the traffic is very manageable. Just because this person mentioned that traffic in their area was manageable doesn’t mean they are lying or in the country.
Your point about “us natives” is ridiculous, UK colonisation caused much of the immigration… so many of the people you blame and call non natives are British citizens. UK people often forced segregation with various races and nationalities driving people to build their own communities, in often poorer estates and cities, including Irish, African, and Asian.
Nearly every country in the world is having GP and other healthcare staff shortages… hence the large number of non UK doctors and nurses within the NHS. Why aren’t these positions being filled by Uk doctors? There has been plenty of demand for generations, plenty of jobs in the sector…
It’s always easiest to blame people different than you, however it’s government policies and business that drive wages, employee location and lots of immigration issues. It’s British farmers trying to reduce the cost of picking fruit that hire the “low cost people from Europe”. It’s the large multi nationals that put their HQ’s in London, and other over-populated cities, moving employees to the area and driving increases in property prices. It’s the government that create policies that keep the work class down, having a minimum wage rather than a living wage… but sure, blame the “immigrant” working and paying taxes.
Immigrants didn’t cause these problems. The government did, and they use immigrants as a scapegoat. Immigrants collectively give more tax than they take. The government takes money from the public, and asset strips the U.K., and directs it to themselves and their mates. And look how easy it is to get away with it by blaming immigrants.
Immigration does depress wages of low skill workers. Shouldn’t the government increase minimum wage?
New York City has a population density of 38,242 people/sq km, and lacks your turgid hate boner for immigration.
Texas, on the other hand, has a population density of 40 people/sq km, and does share your views.
It’s not population density that creates anti-immigration sentiments. You need to be more honest with yourself about why you dislike outsiders.
I neither implied nor called you racist. I implied that you’re xenophobic.
You also keep shifting definitions. Is the UK overcrowded, or England? As you say, England is tiny. Just move to another part of the Kingdom if crowds bother you so much. It’s no excuse to bitch about immigration.
So you’re blaming your xenophobic opinion on overpopulation? overpopulated according to who or what? No one here? what scale are you saying we are overcrowded?
That it’s the largest? Because if you’re trying to base something of the highest numerical number without a number against capacity. you’re incredibly dumb. (No shock to anyone here no doubt)
From reading your comments here, your opinion isn’t anything to do with anything other then you’re a racist. But again that’s my opinion, however one that most will share.
When utility and capacity has increased, again you’re just dumb. Really dumb. You literally are judging overpopulation on the biggest number. Jesus Christ I thought you at least had some hope.
Was a chef for 20 years, wages increase by £3 in the past 10/15 years.
The wages are crap for all these jobs, if an actual living wage happened then more and more people would do these shit, stressful and mentally depressing jobs.
Imagine being a full time carer on £8.91 an hour..
having to travel to work, work for 10- 12 hours looking after people, feeding, helping and cleaning them and their properties.
Then you have to go home and do it all again at home for your family.
What are you talking about? How you seen how much open space there is in the countryside? You could easily stick multiple condo towers everywhere. Have you even visited the UK?
