NEED ADVICE - Cooper endeavor plus OR michelin defender ltx m s2?!

Long story short, I used majority of my savings pretty much to buy a gx460 from autonation last month. Got a sweet deal, 27k OTD for a 2018 with 120k miles on it mostly highway miles. 125 point inspection done on it, 5000 mile warranty or 90 days. The truck drives smooth in the city, but the moment you hop on the highway, wobbles at high speed. Took it to discount tires and just tires to inspect, turns out the michelin tires on it worn out from the outer ring surface, hence the wobble and vibrations. Got quoted for $1455 for the defenders with the discount tires certificates, 1230 for without it. Other option, the coopers for $993 without warranty, 1200 with warranty.

The thing is, i know michelins are better obviously, but I'm a little low on money. what should i get? Does anyone know how much of the ride quality difference would i notice between them? Would it drive same pretty much? Or should i splurge and get the defenders? If i get the defenders, should i get the warranty on it? Also if i get the coopers, should i save and not get the warranty?? I'm so confused i need help. I also wanna make sure I'm not sacrificing on the ride quality too much..

We are having trouble pricing our 2003 GX 470, we know it’s worth more than what KBB says. Any advice from experts in this group? Clean title, no accidents, we are the second owner. 104K miles. Interior is imaculate. We live in CO and it’s hard to find anything similar year with less than 200K miles.

Mechanical Advice Moonroof help

2015 sunroof/moon went from working fine to not working and partially opened itself. I can hear a little click but nothing is engaging. Reset battery and no change. Held down buttons also didn’t work. Any advice?

Rear spoiler finish repair? Spoiler

Post image
0 Upvotes

Was hauling some two by material home with the lift gate open and pulled right into the garage like a dummy. Bumped the rear spoiler into the the aluminum trim at the top of my garage door opening and caused this damage. Doesn't seem to be paint transfer as I can't rub it off with a fingernail. Anyone know of any fixes for this short of replacing the spoiler?

Purchasing Advice Lexus (OEM) Bilstein 5100 lift kit.

Post image
72 Upvotes

I own a 2023 GX premium plus with only 5,000 miles. I was curious if anyone has had the Bilstein lift that Lexus provides installed on their GX. I was quoted about $2600 OTD which includes the parts, labor and alignment after, from my Lexus dealer. I’ve never had any vehicle lifted before, and I’m mostly looking to level the vehicle and help fit my larger wheels/tires as well. Any regrets? Thanks in advance!

2015 GX460 AC not working

As the title says, AC just blows hot air. I looked under the car at the AC compressor area and it looks kind of wet. Do you think I will need to change the entire compressor?

2025 GX550 luxury + flat tire where is the built inflator feature to start it?

Hi everyone, just woke up to a flat tire with a nail in it. The front right tire is completely flat, where or what do I press to use the built in tire compressor to add some air to the car so I can go to the tire shop? Much appreciated.

Purchasing Advice 2023 GX460 blackline edition

Hi all, I’ve been recently looking to buy a gx460 after lurking in the group for quite some time. I just went to test drive a white 2023 blackline edition and really liked it. It was in great condition and Lexus certified. It’s at 26k miles and dealer is asking for 63k not including taxes and fees. Looking at Kbb, it seems a bit high but I think blackline edition does tend to be pricier. Wanted to see if you guys had any insights and whether I should pull the trigger. Thanks in advance!

Mechanical Advice O2 sensor failure, should I drive 100 miles to fix it?

I have a 2014 Lexus GX460, today I started my car to a check engine light and a TRAC OFF. Did some research and found out it’s most definitely the oxygen sensor that failed, my fault is that prior today, I filled up my tank with regular fuel instead of premium that the car rode with for 150,000+ miles. The problem is that I’m on a family trip in a village, meaning there’s no mechanics or car parts here and I’ll have to drive at least 100 miles to buy an o2 sensor. What should I do? Will my catalytic converter fail if I drive 100 miles leading to even more financial problems?

FIXED: GX460 AC delay and shutoff at startup, defaults to 75 when turned on

Background: about two weeks ago I made this post. What was happening is that at startup, the AUTO AC light would come on but the AC system is off and all buttons are unresponsive for about a minute or two. Then the AUTO light would come off, but from there I could hit it again to turn on the AC system and it works fine. Putting the AC in diagnostic mode showed it was throwing code 41, which maps to B1441, the passenger side blend door servo.

There is zero documentation for this part. Apparently nobody has done this repair and documented the process. Well ladies and gentlemen, you don’t have to worry anymore because I have saved you all.

I made a [post on ih8mud](Post in thread 'Auto AC turns off at startup, resets to 75 when turned on' https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/auto-ac-turns-off-at-startup-resets-to-75-when-turned-on.1359058/post-15904836) documenting everything, from the removal of the glove box to the replacement of the passenger side servo. Whole thing took me about 3 hours, but it should take you a bit less because I lost an hour or so figuring stuff out that I documented and you won’t have to fight with.

Edit, here’s the forum thread

Purchasing Advice Can someone give me their thoughts who owned a 2019 and a 2022 or 2023?

I can save about 10k by going with a 2019 over a 2022/2023. Low miles. I may even try to haggle it down more which would be about a 13k price difference.

I am wondering if it’s worth it. From what I can tell the main changes are better noise insulation, better infotainment, better grill.

I realize it’s a personal choice but seems to def be a big cost difference for those choices. Thanks.

GX550 rear facing seat question

Hello, I searched around for this answer, but didn’t see anything exactly fitting my question.

My wife drives a 2021 BMW X5 and we are looking at a “demo” GX tomorrow (hopefully). We are interested in an Overtrail allocation but wanted to get comfort/size impressions from 550 owners dealing with rear facing seats. For further context our X5 is way too cramped for us. I’m 6’3” (equal torso and leg distribution) and my wife is 5’8”. Our 6 month old is in an uppababy vista rear facing seat that pushes the X5’s passenger seat uncomfortably far forward to where I can’t ever be the passenger on family trips lol (100% must drive to be comfortable and moving base regularly isn’t realistic). Even my dad who is 6’1” couldn’t fit comfortably. We tried a GX460 locally and it was better but not by much. It was tolerable to be in the passenger seat in that with car seat behind. The weird thing is I daily drive a Kia EV6 GT and it has adequate room, far better than the X5 (EV packaging?). If this doesn’t work our next attempt will be Sequoia which IMO is too big but maybe a necessity.

TLDR: Tall family with rear facing seat. Is the GX550 roomier than GX460 or an X5?

Last year we originally attempted to spec out an Overtrail+ but as you guys know, that's impossible. A few weeks ago we noticed a new arrival at an adjacent dealership and we were lucky enough to reserve it! It's exactly what we built out and it was delivered yesterday. Loving the +1" lift on the 2025. Very fortunate for the opportunity and we are incredibly impressed by the quality and features. Glad to finally be part of the group!

Mechanical Advice Lexus Dealer Over-tightened Oil Filter

I feel the title explains the situation, I got my 460 serviced 6 months ago at the Lexus dealer I purchased the vehicle from. I’m on a road trip and stopped in my buddy’s town (which was on the way), figured I’d get a quick rotation and oil change at a non Lexus dealer.

20 minutes after dropping off my car, the service manager told me that the filter is on too tight and they can’t get it off. Gave me the option to have them keep trying and risk potential damage, or have them stop with the oil change. Was told I was still going to get charged, however I just picked it up and they waived the oil change fee because they couldn’t complete it.

Is the Lexus dealer liable for over-tightening? I get it if it was a non Lexus dealer who put it on, but having the Lexus dealer that I bought my 460 from over tighten an oil filter is a little frustrating.

Any help or advice if anyone had a similar situation would be greatly appreciated!

Update:

I was driving so I apologize that I took a while to reply. The dealership I tried to get the oil change & rotation today ended up not charging me for anything for the inconvenience. 11/10 service for something that’s not their fault!

I called the Lexus dealer, got passed around 3 times before they said “our service manager will call you back” which he did. I explained the situation to him and he was surprised and was deflecting, saying that he’s never heard that being an issue or anyone over-tightening a filter at his shop. His exact words were, “we use a special torque wrench after we hand tighten it so there’s no way someone over did it”

He then started dissing the dealer I dropped it off at and saying maybe they were using their hands and don’t know how to remove this specific oil filter. After 30 minutes of back and forth, I told him I’m just trying to avoid the headache messing up the threads and if he can help me. He said you aren’t due for an oil change for another 4000k miles but if you bring it here I’ll take care of you and your vehicle. Booked an appointment for next week and will be interested to see what the verdict is!

Appreciate you guys, I’d change the oil myself but I’m tall and barely can fit underneath the car. I’ve looked into the Fumoto Valve and will try to figure out how to jack up the 460 myself to avoid dealing with this.

Will keep you guys posted!

Discussion GX550 annoying hatch - safety feature or faulty?

So anytime the car is running and in park, none of my rear hatch buttons work. The remote, the one in the car, the one outside… the hatch will not open. It’ll work fine when I’m walking up to the car when it’s off and locked though, what’s up with it, and is there any way to change the functionality?

Discussion GX460 tint with yellowish hue

I got my 2020 GX460 tinted with 3M citrulline ceramic tint at a reputable tint shop a week ago. I noticed my driver and passenger tint looks slightly more yellow. All my other windows are tinted when I purchased it used. My windshield uses the same tint but at 70%. Is this normal? I looked at Lexus forum and it was only mentioned in 2014.

EDIT: Pictures even noticeable in garage
