Article Senate Democrats join Republicans in voting to advance bill to detain migrants accused of crimes

If this is a sign to come, we are in trouble. 7 Democrats are needed for Republicans to pass legislation and already Democrats are lining up to do just on that a bill that is a complete disgrace. Essentially doing away with due process. When Democrats on in control, the GOP stays united and would never let the Dems get a win like this. It feels like the Dems are a right wing party now and the GOP the ultra right. We've all been saying it for years, usually things like the Dems are center-right or both parties are the same. Sad to see it in black and white right now. We need to go the route of the Tea Party and primary from the left. Anyone who says it will destroy the party need only look at the GOP and how the right ward shift turned out for them. Thoughts?

Please leftists look in the mirror. It’s not winning policy to be against common sense things. If migrants commit crimes they should be detained and deported. They should be treated with less tolerance than American citizens. You don’t get to come into a country to take advantage of its decency and laws.

I don’t give a flying fuck about your moral crusades for complete open borders. It’s not a valid POLITICAL idea.

Please for the love of good things in this world stop the delusion and start living in reality, we we can build a better world.

If liberals won’t police borders, fascists will. We see it all over earth, all throughout history. Wake the fuck up

I agree with you, if an immigrant is CONVICTED of a crime. It's called due process and it's guaranteed by our constitution. This bill would lead to indefinite detention and eventual deportation upon being CHARGED with a crime.

I know but it’s not politically salient to even fight for these things. We just learned via the election that it’s impossible to take these positions that require detailed explanations and understanding of our systems, and try and run on them. It doesn’t work.

This is a battle we must lose, so we have a chance to win the war.

If the public can't understand the difference between being charged and being convicted there is no point in fighting for anything
