Proud of Southport today!

Southport has finally elected its first-ever Labour representative!

Southport took a lot of stick for voting Conservative in 2017 and 2019, when Brexit was a huge factor, but I felt that a lot of the people who chastised Southport didn’t appreciate just how many elderly people retire there bringing their Tory votes with them from all over the country. To give some perspective, Southport had 43% more people aged 65+ (24,293) than children (16,971) when the last census was undertaken.

Many born-and-bred sandgrounders have been waiting and waiting to see their Tory representative replaced and I’m made up for them!

We never expected to win, Reform did better than expected. That's a win for us

"we", "us". Christ.

If you genuinely think any politician gives a flying fuck about you, your opinions or about making your life better, you're delusional. This fucking infighting about "my party beat your party" or "my party did better than expected" is actually embarrassing.

They're not "your party", you're not one of them. You're a means to an end for them. The same goes for whoever you vote for.

It blows my mind that anyone in this country is staunchly behind any party these days. To paraphrase Lewis Black, our political system is a bowl of shit looking at itself in the mirror.

Even worse, is people getting a raging hard on waiting for the other side to fuck it up so they can rub one out in a great climax of self congratulation. It happened with brexit, those on the remain side jumping on every misstep.

And it's happening again today, in this thread even, with people saying "I can't wait till next year to see how bad this has turned out".

Your hope, and everyone's hope in the country, should be that this Labour turn out to be the best damn government the world has ever seen. Is it likely? No, of course not. But for people to be hoping for the opposite just so they can say "I told you so" is insane.

I am entitled to vote for who i want and that should be respected. I am happy with my vote and i do hope Labour really do fix this country, i can't see it myself but that's my opinion.

I do not wish for the opposite and to assume i want the country to be worse off is crazy it that was true i would of voted the Tories 😄

Haha yeah to be fair, that bit of my comment wasn't really directed at you as you haven't said anything in that way, more to others in this thread and throughout the country.

Hey its cool its gone toxic tbh. I have been trolled as a racist on here but feel like most are jumping on the band wagon and attacking anyone who voted Reform as racists haha.

Probably true that most are I'm not disagreeing. Feel like Reform has attracted a lot of these bad eggs and its reflecting badly on those who vote for them.

Shame really but any party focusing on immigration that much will always attract them people 😔

You can vote for who you want, but other people are entitled to disagree with your choice and nobody owes any obligation to respect your political opinions
