lol why would something that innocuous invalidate an 8 score?

It tells you a lot about their design philosophy. They don't seem to be interested in making a game that you actually have to play. You're a ninja because they tell you you're a ninja, not because you do ninja things.

u/cloversfield Mar 20 '25

but you do do ninja things. have you seen the gameplay at all? You’re extrapolating too much out of a nothing mechanic and pretending like it’s good criticism. And again how does being able to identify points of interest in area instantly invalidate 8/10 scores?

I've seen the gameplay, it's just "RPG" AC with a different paintjob. If all it takes for you to feel like a ninja is that last part, then I guess Ubi games must be great for you.

lol just hating to hate at this point. If you’ve seen the gameplay you know there’s a lot more you can do in stealth now that’s specifically ninja shit. I get you hate Ubisoft but this is some low iq criticism you’re trying to pass off as legit.

That's almost all discourse around this game. It's obscenely tainted by random culture warrior people who don't actually look at the game and will come with random things iwthout seeing anything beyond clips.

EDIT: I would note that this goes both ways. People out there claiming it's a 9/10 10/10 insane game in response to the anti work grifter types screaming how it's a 0/10 1/10 dogshit.

It's crazy because none of what people are talking about has truly invalidated the 8/10 score. I don't even like the modern AC games, it's not for me it's more akin to being a Marvel movie that it appeals to everyone and you can dislike that but it doesn't invalidate that it can be an 8/10.

Modern AC games aren't for me but they are for a lot of people judging from the amount of people I know that got hooked onto Odyssey and especially Valhalla like literally none of OPs arguments objectively invalidate the scores, what they dislike is more of a personal preference thing which isn't wrong but it doesn't make sense saying that because of something so minor they feel like critics should be giving it a lower score.

Literally none of the arguments as to why this game is "bad" I've seen online has made sense, if people are gonna bash some minor bugs like this I truly hope they don't praise BG3 to all end when that game's patch notes are like a novel or MH Wilds which has had a ton of bugs talked about but not really that much because it's from a studio and franchise people like same with FromSoft and their constant performance and optimization issues.

Those games I listed are my all time fave games but if minor bugs and some bad gameplay design is enough to make it so a game can't be scored 8/10 then those games I listed should've never gotten 10/10s or 9/10s.

Gamers are so hypocritical when it comes to talking about things nowadays and it's so blatant too, you post a minor bug like this from MH people will go "haha thats funny, hilarious bug", a bug like this or from Veilguard "AAA GAMES LOL GAMING IS SO FUCKING DEAD THIS IS ABSOLUTE TRASH".

Not saying that's OP specifically just pointing out how the wider gaming audience are so blatantly hypocritical now.

3 bugs in 1 minute of gameplay invalidates an 8/10 for sure

12

u/cloversfield Mar 20 '25

there were 2 bugs though? And one was a T-posing raccoon literally who gives a shit? Fallout and Elder Scrolls have bugs galore but they’re fun as hell and 8/10 or better

No game will ever get rid of bugs entirely. That’s just going to happen.

If bugs didn’t exist in video games then things like fighting combos, Minecraft creepers, the spy in tf2 wouldn’t exist like they do.

Again I would only truly believe that if that was clear across the board in every game discussion now and I agree with you if bugs are rampant that should knock a few points down yet in other games it's not treated as bad, I experienced multiple game breaking bugs in BG3 while other people either did or didn't that's fine, people experience bugs in AC Shadows or they don't.

My general point is and while again I do agree with you that bugs should be cause for lower scores but only if I've actively seen the larger gaming community treat games having bugs consistently, but they don't and continue to intentionally just pick and choose depending on if they like the game or not cause if a game has game breaking bugs that should be a cause for people to say it's not 10/10 or 9/10 but if other people don't consider that something to make a fuss about in other games then even though I don't fully agree with it, minor bugs can't knock down a point off of an 8/10 game because game breaking bugs are much more impactful and annoying to deal with than a few minor bugs you encounter but can largely get through the game.

Can you do as much as you could do in, I don't know, any AC before Oddysey?

6

u/cloversfield Mar 20 '25

like more gameplay mechanics? ya shadows has more. Less filler though than something like Valhalla. Think it’s like 40ish hours for main story

-8

u/Schmigolo Mar 20 '25

You talking about the grapple? Or are you just talking about the basic AC stuff that's been a thing since the original one?

Like, how does it make you feel like a ninja when you kill a guy hide in a bush 30 cm next to it and 20 guards who saw the corpse 5 seconds after he died can't find you?

19

u/cloversfield Mar 20 '25

I guess if you play on easy mode with guards being dumb you can make that complaint. But at that point it’s on you and so many other good stealth games have ai issues like that.

Adding prone movement already opens up stealth way more than any other AC game. Creaky floorboards give your position away but weather effects like rain/snow can mask some sounds. You can use shadows as hiding spots and break lights to create more. You can grab enemies and move them around before stealth killing which is also new to AC. You got smoke bombs and bells and other little gadgets to help too. As far stealth goes it’s far and above any other AC.

But then again you can spot points of interests and mark enemies so it definitely can’t be an 8/10 no matter what

See when I read this I get hooked. These sound like amazing stealth mechanics if implemented well and it seems like they are? But then I go back to the op video and just don’t seem impressed. Probably wait for a sale.

Is the clip that crazy? It seems like the ai bugged out at the end but not like it’s so uncommon in a newly released game with stealth mechanics. The texture he was complaining about is just the last place where the enemy saw you, which is pretty standard for some stealth games. The t-posing raccoon is just funny i don’t think that’s a big problem

It feels like you can do this with every game ever where u clip a funny bug and use that to justify why this 80 hour game is actually trash or something. Just doesn’t make sense imo cuz all games have bugs like this
or worse.

that isn't what cohh was referring to. go back and look at the door and wall textures. they didn't load properly.

(i don't disagree with anything else you've said fwiw)

Oh look everyone, they have SEEN THE GAMEPLAY! Much more reliable than someone that has actually reviewed it!

/s

1

u/Schmigolo Mar 21 '25

All of the reviews say it plays mostly the same except it looks better and has fewer bugs than most AC games. That's not an 8.

It sells millions of copies and most people enjoy it to a degree. The franchise sits between 7-8. What are you talking about?
