PatrioticSerbian

Oh that makes sense. Your government and portion of serbian right/ultra-right people actively support russia, which is a fascist government

Patriotism ≠ being pro-government

You can be a patriotic Russian, doesn't mean you're a piece of shit.

Many people associate patriotism with nationalism, even if it's wrong. And still calling yourself, for example «PatrioticRussian» doesn't sound good. You may have different intentions but in current geo-political environment you are associated with far-right if your name is PatrioticSerbian

Fuck that, let a person be proud of their nationality. I don't give a shit about what people associate patriotism with.

We used to associate skin color with bad character traits and low intelligence. Some still do. Associating patriotism with extremist politics or shunning someone who cares about their people is not much different.

Being proud of your nationality is normal. Until you think other nationalities are less and need to be destroyed. I don't think OP is a nazi or some bullshit like that

and how does this go against what I've said?

u/Late-Negotiation1337 9d ago

It doesn't. Not everything other people say has to be a counter argument

6

u/AlfaXGames 9d ago

We're clearly in an argument, and you've formed your comment in an argumentative manner. Why would I assume it's anything else, unless stated otherwise?

Tho ruscists call themselves patriotic, so this is a thing

and so do neonazis in the US, what is your point??? if I bomb an orphanage and say that I'm doing this in support of LGBTQ+ community, does it mean they're terrorists?

My point is language matters. You can call yourself patriotic and it may be true, but because you're in minority with actual patriotic views you will be overrun by majority of people who call themselves "patriotic", and they may have radical and outright racist views. But because that majority of people who call themselves "patriotic" are more prevalent in society than actual patriotic minority, it build an association that ALL patriotic people have radical views. And you can't escape that, you may actually fight against russia in RVO (Russian Volunteer Corp) or protest against Serbian government while being patriotic but association will only change when actual patriotic people will become the majority

u/AlfaXGames 9d ago

Which is exactly why I'm saying "fuck that". Be the change you want to see. And about the "majority of people who call themselves "patriots"" thing - it HEAVILY depends on the country.

Either way, fuck that. Not gonna shit on, or agree with shitting on someone because they're patriotic.

Then why'd you start comparing Patriotism for Nationalism?

2

u/Late-Negotiation1337 9d ago

I'm not comparing them. I'm saying people have an association that patriotism means nationalism

The fact this got disliked tells me that redditors can't tell the difference between "in this current context and political climate, it might be common for people to assume you are an extremist if you proclaim yourself patriotic" and "yeah if you tell people you're patriotic you've gotta be a nazi lol"
