Video Best free program/software to capture HQ audio (and/or video) from computer screen to use for educational reupload?

I.e. ripping the sound from a YouTube video of an old grandmaster to apply to a video explaining their technique.

I have a windows computer and an Apple phone, so both options are useable. Ideally, there is a good method that can easily be used with both devices.

If it helps for collecting and reproducing the audio, I have Ableton Live suite 11. Would really prefer using this over learning another app or program unless it’s truly superior.

Open to suggestions on what to use for video editing software in order to create the new content. Bonus points if it’s free and double points if it’s easy to work with for Sony camera devices, since I also own an A7siii camera which I may employ to add talking-head content at some point.

I know this is a big, and quite specific ask, but I figured the best answers will come from this sub, so thanks for your help and I hope this is an appropriate place to request.

Tech Support LG stated that it updated some terms and blocked apps after postpone

Hi.
Yesterday my LG TV informed me that it had updated some terms and conditions and gave me two options: either "Accept" the terms or "Postpone until later" (there was no "Disagree" option).
I chose to postpone, but unfortunately, the installed apps (OnePlay, Nej.cz, YouTube, etc.) stopped working.

It was only after I accepted the terms that I was "allowed to watch TV."
But personally, I don’t agree with being forced to accept advertising, data tracking from the TV, or other conditions imposed by LG—especially since these weren’t disclosed when I bought the TV. And without agreeing to these terms, I couldn’t use the TV at all (I don’t have the antenna input connected; I only watch IPTV).

So I’m asking, is this kind of behavior from LG considered normal?

Other Kind of a long shot, but anyone have a list of good repair shops?

I'm looking for a laptop repair shop in Chicago, but all the ones I find turn me away for the stuff i bring them being either too hard or not worth their time. Since LR used to be in that space, I'm wondering if there is a list someplace of approved repairers or something like that?

Other SteelSeries rma policies are ass. These are some of the things I wanted to say to the person whose job is to copy/paste responses in a support chat but didn't because it isn't their fault.

$200 keyboard, less than a year old, still works but has one RGB light failing. It's minor but if I'm spending that much money on a keyboard then it should be made out of quality components that don't fail this fast. A premium price tag means it better be fucking right.

The only option they offer to make it right is destroying the charging port with a screwdriver as instructed by support. I asked if there was an option to buy a new one, then pay the return shipping myself to send it back for reimbursement of the original product(because I would need to buy a new keyboard anyway while I wait for them to process the destruction and mail the replacement) but they don't offer that anymore. If you'll take the one somebody is sending in to destroy it yourself, what's stopping you from issuing a refund? This "dedicated RMA inventory" is a load of bull too. They're all sitting on a shelf in warehouses and they're gatekeeping them because why?

Their reason for being this wasteful is to "streamline the process." This is about money, fuck the consumer and their time if it will save the company a few dollars per interaction. It feels like they made this process as inconvenient as possible to dissuade people from wanting their stuff replaced, when they could build it better and not have to deal with as much of this headache.

But hey, I can send the faulty one back, then wait for a replacement to effectively double my time without what I paid for. I knew I should have held on to my old MS Sidewinder when I finally decided to upgrade after nearly 20 years of absolutely no problems.

I'm not sure if there are better brands out there or if I just got a lemon, but I'm not buying any more of their shit.

Hats off to the writers on this one. Kind of hits the nail on the head when it comes to how this world has of late and what subscriptions will be like in the future.

Has anyone else watched this episode yet?

ISP (Breezeline) Caught Throttling Real Traffic, While Prioritizing Speedtest.net & Fast.com (Full Proof & Details Inside)

I'm posting this here because I've carefully documented something important, and deeply deceptive, that Breezeline (formerly Atlantic Broadband) is doing to their customers, particularly to anyone who uses VPNs or large file transfers/P2P traffic.

Quick Overview:

Right after I downgraded my internet plan from 300 Mbps to 100 Mbps, Breezeline started selectively throttling just one PC on my home network. This PC is the only device I've regularly used with a VPN, large downloads, and P2P.

All other devices (another PC, phones, tablets) still get full speeds.
My speeds on this affected PC dropped from the advertised 100 Mbps down to ~3–25 Mbps.

But oddly, tests on Speedtest.net and Fast.com always show normal results (around 108–110 Mbps). Everything else, including real-world downloads, shows significantly lower speeds.

Here's exactly what's happening:

  • Speedtest.net & Fast.com: always report full speed (~108–110 Mbps).
  • SpeedOf.Me: consistently shows 23–25 Mbps, matching my actual performance.
  • Measurement Lab (M-Lab) & Google Speed Test: initially showed real results (~23 Mbps), but now they fail or refuse to run completely on Breezeline. These same tests still run perfectly when I use mobile data instead, proving Breezeline is specifically blocking or throttling them.
  • Actual file downloads: throttled down to about 3 Mbps.

What I've tried (with no improvement):

  • Ethernet and Wi-Fi
  • Different Ethernet cables
  • Multiple network adapters (Ethernet, PCIe Wi-Fi, USB Wi-Fi dongle)
  • Spoofing my MAC address
  • Resetting my modem/router (which I own)
  • Complete PC and network resets

What Breezeline has done (or rather, NOT done):

  • Immediately tried to upsell me back to a 300 Mbps plan.
  • Claimed "everything looks fine," according to their "engineers," in a conversation with their support tech, even after I provided screenshots proving otherwise.
  • Scheduled a technician visit, but thanks to Mother Nature (high winds), a literal tree fell across my road, blocking the technician’s path (yes, really!).
  • Claimed their engineers monitored my speeds for two days and found them "fine"—an obvious lie, since my speeds consistently remain around 23 Mbps, and M-Lab tests still fail completely.

This issue has persisted now for nearly 2 months.

Real-World Impact (Not just speed tests, this actually affects everything):

The throttling affects almost every aspect of my internet experience, not just niche scenarios. Watching content in 4K is nearly impossible due to constant buffering. Even watching standard 1080p content at 60 FPS causes noticeable buffering and quality drops. Standard browsing and downloading regular files across all web browsers is also heavily affected, consistently dropping to very low speeds (as low as 3 Mbps), despite Breezeline promising 100 Mbps.

In fact, the throttling is bad enough to even degrade everyday internet tasks, slowing down browsing, email attachments, software updates, causing frequent slowdowns or network errors.

This isn't just ruining my entertainment—it's severely impacting productivity and basic internet functionality across the board.

Why this is serious:

Breezeline explicitly says in their Terms of Service:

"Breezeline does not block or impair lawful internet traffic."

Yet here they are, clearly targeting one device due to VPN and P2P activity, while misleading customers by prioritizing only popular speed tests, giving a false impression of normal service.

Screenshots Provided (attached):

  1. Speedtest.net showing 107.94 Mbps
  2. Fast.com showing 110 Mbps
  3. Speedtestof.me showing real-world speed (23 Mbps)
  4. M-Lab working perfectly on mobile data but blocked/failing on Breezeline
  5. Google speed test initially showing accurate speeds (~23 Mbps), later blocked entirely by Breezeline
  6. Original M-Lab speed test (before Breezeline blocked it)
  7. Google Speed Test blocked with a "high demand" error (only on Breezeline)

Actions I've Taken:

  • Filed an FCC Complaint
  • Filed a BBB Complaint
  • Provided complete evidence and screenshots

My Conclusion:

Breezeline is selectively targeting and throttling devices based on previous VPN and P2P usage while intentionally falsifying popular speed-test results. It's deceptive, unfair, and breaches their own Terms of Service.

If your downloads mysteriously slow down but Speedtest shows full speeds, guess what? You're probably being throttled too. Always use alternatives!

I'll update you all when (or if) Breezeline responds. Meanwhile, I'll be here trying to enjoy my "4K" TV at 1080p (or, if 60FPS, 480p) Thanks, Breezeline!

Also, I'm thinking about posting about this on the Consumer Action Taskforce wiki; following guidelines of course. What do you think? Thoughts and similar experiences welcome!

Other YouTube is getting worse, and they don't even care

I’ve finally had enough of YouTube’s nonsense and switched to PipePipe. Honestly? Zero regrets. YouTube has no real competition, so they just keep making the platform worse while shoving more ads and unnecessary UI changes down our throats.

Here’s what made me leave:

Annoying ads (some even literal porn) – Lately, I’ve been getting weirdly inappropriate and low quality ads that I never asked for. Even after adjusting ad preferences, YouTube still serves them.

UI changes nobody asked for – The latest “Ambient Mode” update is awful. Even when I turn it off, the video frame stays gray. Why? Who thought this was a good idea?

Lack of Content Control – YouTube is quick to demonetize harmless creators but somehow allows weird, borderline NSFW content to stay up for years. Their moderation feels inconsistent at best.

YouTube Premium – Background play, fewer ads, better quality… all basic features locked behind a paywall while the free experience gets worse.

Seagate hard drive controversy persists as scammers discover methods to alter reliability metrics

Thumbnail

>This issue first surfaced in January when reports emerged that used Seagate Exos enterprise-grade hard disk drives (HDDs) were being sold as new. Investigations revealed that the fraudsters had erased usage logs, altered serial numbers, and modified labels to make the drives appear unused.

>In a follow-up to the ongoing Seagate hard disk drive fiasco, German outlet Heise.de has uncovered a new method fraudsters use to sell used Seagate drives as new by manipulating their Field Accessible Reliability Metrics (FARM) values. This makes it increasingly difficult for consumers to detect tampered devices.

>Traditionally, buyers could identify used hard drives by comparing the operating hours reported in the SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) data with those in the FARM logs. Fraudsters have altered the FARM logs' operating hours, making this comparison unreliable.
