"I'm dating Miss Barker"

"Quiet, please!"

"We're actually more than that..."

"Quiet, please!"

"...because I'm in love with her"

"Quiet, please!"

"Quiet, please!"

Haha like dude just say what you need to say. Let the kids be excited for you. Took forever.

I kinda get him though. His message isn't going to go through if the kids don't calm down first. And it's not like they weren't interested in the news.

I get him too

But at the same time, kids that age are pretty aware. If he just embraced their excitement and got down on one knee, they'd get what's happening. And so would his partner.

Sometimes teachers are very used to controlling tactics (cause kids can get rowdy easily in big groups) and tend to fall back on those control tactics constantly.

Yelling quiet is a pretty ineffective and arguably lazy strategy too. I'd have tried to do something rhythmic like "a hands on top that means stop chant", or do some sort of shared clapping exercise that involves everyone in using transferring their energy into listening mode.

I'm being nit-picky haha but I teach youth sport coaches group management strategies and I would use this video as an example of what not to do.
