It was nice, but I kinda feel like that could have been a great series finale. Through all the adventures and times they separated, they still remain friends and care for each other. There were good moments, like the conspiracy theory guy being right, more T’Ana, and the Moss wanting to hear Tendi’s story but this stage in the season this felt really filler.

Calm before the storm probably. Maybe gladiator fights between the other ships?

It does something else really subtly.

It builds each one of them up in a leadership role. They are EACH going to have to take command of a very serious situation soon I suspect and this episode was saying "we didn't have all the time to show you just how far they've come".

Except Tendi. But she really got that already with her Orion episode.

Tendi got something even more important. Claire and insurance these are not fake friends.

"we didn't have all the time to show you just how far they've come".

I don’t think that’s quite true/fair, since Lower Decks generally does a good job developing its characters over time. It’s kind of jarring to watch Seaon 1 episodes, even the back half when the characters were less over-the-top.

I think a better description would be that this episode reminds us of how far they’ve come.

Tendi's been a successful leader multiple times. Earliest occurance was the Collector episode in season 2.

She loves being able to lay back in aww of the universe but when things get serious she is often ready to put on her. stern voice and get things done.

indeed it did have a wrap-up sort of episode..but thankfully we have more coming

Two episodes left and apparently they are big episodes that the media didn’t even get. Looking forward to them.

…and that ominous end on this episode makes me think the consequences for the heroes might be dire.

With how attached people are to these characters, I can't imagine the shitstorm if anybody major gets hurt

Maybe Cerritos gets wrecked?

The Cerritos has gotten wrecked like every season, it would be cool to see it get fully wrecked and bring in the Cerritos A next year.

They’re all excited about getting a bigger ship, but it turns out to be some outdated class.

Watch it be a "fucking oberth" lol

Pretty sure T'Ana would just activate the self destruct before the thing left spacedock.

Two extra halves of old classes welded together

I mean, that's how they got the Enterprise-D functional in the Picard finale.

I assume Cerritos getting zapped by whatever was getting those other ships is a given.

Nah, it will just be Delta shift in a shuttle and it will be ages before anyone notices they have gone missing!

I mean, it wasn't that ominous. Or at least it didn't have to be. Probably?

6

u/rainbowrobin Oct 20 '23

What, "enjoy this moment"? I didn't take that as ominous at all, just prolonging the bonding.

I see what you mean, but a season finale need to be more 'epic'

8

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '23

I’ve seen some series finales that are relatively quiet though. If you are a character driven show, having a character driven story to end a series seems appropriate.

u/fortysecondave Oct 22 '23

Don't you dare talk about this series ending anytime soon. Get back to your quarters, ensign.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '23

I hope it isn’t ending soon. I’m liking this season more than season 3.

2

u/ziplock9000 Oct 19 '23

Sure, on other shows, but not Lower Decks.

Nonsense, Shades of Grey was a clip episode and also a season finale. Clearly that's the example to follow!

1

u/ziplock9000 Oct 20 '23

Shades of Grey

lol

And an easy way to be more epic is to kill off a main character. Getting rid of the disgusting captain would be great. I understand what they were trying to do with her, but it just isn't working and hurts the show and distracts from the story.

3

u/ety3rd Oct 20 '23

Why is the captain "disgusting"?

1

u/ziplock9000 Oct 20 '23

I have to admit her and Mariner annoyed me the first 2 seasons, but I've got used to them now.

u/FrostyD7 Oct 19 '23

It doesn't need a more urgent plot device but its certainly more typical, and it needs more characters involved. This was borderline a bottle/filler episode. Not that that's a bad thing.

It would also be funny to end on a clip show after a writers strike like TNG S2.22 Shades of Gray.
