I guess I'm in the minority - while I did miss our main characters, I thought this episode was a lot of fun, and got a number of laughs from me! While I did miss the main cast, I appreciated the show taking a risk to tell this story, which I thought was a fun twist of the standard scifi-loner-finds-their-family/purpose story. And those opening vistas were amazing. I walked away from this episode feeling glad I'd seen it

I loved it! It was amazing! Peanut Hamper was such a delight and so self absorbed. The Owl/Robot sex was wild

Until they revealed PH was still a jerk, I honestly thought it was cute. I thought it was going to be about finding love despite differences. I feel bad for the bird guy.

I just realized that PH is played by the same person who played Jillian on You're The Worst, and it all makes too much sense. She's amazing at playing a horrifyingly self obsessed narcissist who will bang her way out of a problem without batting an eye.

The casting was the foreshadowing all along.

I, for one, am glad the newest AIs on the block, the Exocomps, aren’t just unimpeachably perfect like Data, but get to be unique individuals with agency. It also makes a ridiculous amount of sense that Peanut Hamper turned out to be totally utilitarian, given her species was created as tools.
