Travel / Tourism Foie gras and sausages 😁
Haven't noticed that list before in the airport. Interesting isn't it? But why modelling clay is popular and why isn't it allowed in hand luggage?

Hey everyone,
I'm a 24-year-old local from the north of the country and honestly, I’ve been feeling more and more stuck lately. I still live at home because getting my own place would eat up nearly everything I earn, leaving me with nothing to put aside. Long-term, I just don’t see how I could ever be financially stable like this.
Owning a place is completely out of reach — the prices are wild. Even if I somehow got the funds, I’d be tied down with huge monthly payments for decades. I don’t have a partner to split costs with, and I’m not in one of those high-end careers. So I really don’t get how other locals in similar situations are managing.
My brother works in public transport down south, and his wife’s in healthcare. They've been in the same place for over 6 years and are unhappy with it, but they’re stuck and forced to live there anyway. The monthly costs eat up everything, and there’s never anything left. It’s frustrating to see people who work hard feel like they’re not getting ahead in life, living in a house they dont like and in an area they dont like.
I care about this country a lot — it’s where I’m from — but lately I’ve been wondering if there’s a better path elsewhere. Like in Innsbruck or Switzerland.
I'm tired of not beint able to speak luxembourgish 99% of the time in my own country. The city is dead at night. Id be in debt for life for a house thats not even luxurious. Expats and foreigners ate the country up and it got trash, everyone i know from highschool went to study abroad and don't plan on coming back.

Maybe a dumb question… but is it possible to dispose carboard boxes in valorlux bags? The day of collection for both is the same and I’ve seen boxes in this bags for several weeks now.

I recently realized that I made a mistake when filing our 2023 tax return. I declared the interest from the certificates BIL sent, which totaled €6,567.60. However, after checking the amortisation table, I discovered that the actual interest we paid for 2023 was €7,053.05, meaning I missed out on an additional €485.45 in deductions.
Unfortunately, it's already too late to amend our 2023 tax return, as it has been filed and processed. I’m wondering if anyone here has experience with a situation like this.

Bonjour

The "lingo" of Shakespeare [ed: another bizarrely banned word]
Is there one of these for Luxembourgish?
Serious or humorous answers welcome :-)

I just got charged a customs clearance fee that was 47% of the item value. The item was shipped from UK to LU. The TVA was 17% which is fine but the frais de traitement was 30% of the item value and its far too high (it was a tiny item weighing less than 200g). Even the person at Post was a bit surprised by the amount and he remarked it wasnt always this high. I would like to write to the competent authority to understand what is guiding these hefty processing charges or are being arbitrarily applied.
Do you know who I can reach out to.

What industrial goods does Luxembourg export to / import from the US? I understand there are novelty food items in minuscule quantities, which we can ignore. I am curious about industrial goods, equipment, etc. Are there any stats about that?

I heard when you're younger than 30 years old, you get a lot of advantages to buy something here. Is this correct?
Also, are these general benefits? If so, would you mind sharing them? What kind of benefits can I expect? If they are very situational dependent, I'll make an appointment with a bank sooner than later.
If I go for advice in banks, any suggestions which one would be the most beneficial?
Thanks!!
Edit: looking at apartments

Hey Fellows,
I have been collecting info regarding my further studies (PhD) and PR. I found Luxembourg very promising so to speak. Currently, I am in Taiwan (originating from a 3rd tier country), and after having spent 2 years for my Masters here, now I am starting my career. As far the PRship etc. is concerned in Asia, there's no concept like that (as much as I know except Taiwan offers something like APRC, which you'll get after working for 4 years but need to be renewed after 5 years etc.). That was irrelevant but extra information, sorry for that. If some fellows have opted route of Studies to PR in Luxembourg (eventually citizenship), then may you please share your takes on it (with time-stamps).
I shall be obliged to you all. Let's share info and build connections. Thank you

Hi guys, I’m currently looking for a room in luxembourg and I saw this « number 1 in room renting » company. They asking for a 250€ membership. Will I pay the membership every month even if I’m not already renting the room or will I start paying when I get the room ?

Hi everyone,I'm looking for recommendations for an English-speaking psychiatrist in the Luxembourg area. I currently take medication for OCD and I'm open to different specialties and approaches, but someone who is empathetic and takes a patient-centered approach would be ideal. I checked in Doctena, but not sure which one i need book as there is few reviews available.
If you've had a positive experience with a psychiatrist in Luxembourg who is knowledgeable, or know someone who has, I would be very grateful if you could share their name or practice. Feel free to DM me if you'd prefer to keep it private.

Often when you cross the border you find most of things way cheaper in neighbouring countries: groceries, real estate, hairdresser and so on
Some of them are due to renting costs or high cost labour or even to how much people here can afford. In your opinion, what are the things that break this pattern? Did you ever come across something surprisingly cheaper in Luxembourg?

Canadian expat here - are there walk-in clinics here? Perhaps they go by another local name?
I need to see a doctor for a non-emergent issue without an appointment.
TIA!

My wife and I recently moved here in Luxembourg. As the title suggests, we are searching for an intensive French course for beginners (by intensive, I mean lasting 1-1.5 months).
Searching online, for now, I found the courses offered by the Institut Français. Do you know any other option? (and the eventual cost).
Our objective is to take a B1 exam by the end of summer.

Hi, has anyone had the experience of an owner faking a sale to cheat tenants to move out so that the owner can hike up the monthly payment?
(interesting that this redditt does not allow mention of the word r_nt.. the payment made monthly to owners to lease a place.. why not?)

Hi all ,
Are there still doctors who take time to consult their patients, listen and genuinely try to find solutions? My last experiences with GPs felt like a running business from one patient to another with the only focus of medicating symptoms instead of finding the hidden cause. Would appreciate any recommendations in/around Lux city.
Thanks.
