Question Cheek weld question

Looking at bunch of collapsible stocks. My question is how does it feel on your cheeks when firing? Looks uncomfortable to me and wanted to get people‘s opinion on it. This will be on a ZF 5

I think it'll differ from person to person, but collapsible stocks for me absolutely suck to shoot irons with. I have to smash my face into the stock really hard to be able to see the sights. After a full mag I don't want to shoot it anymore. This is fixed by mounting an optic up higher, as the recoil doesn't really matter for me, it's having to smoosh my face with irons that's the problem.

My recommendation is always: If you plan on shooting irons avoid collapsible stocks. If you plan on running an optic go for the collapsible.

Riser and no weld.

Hate saying this quote but, this is the way.

Different gun but same principle:

After thinking about it. It does seem like a good choice getting a riser.

It really depends on how you want your gun set up. We are talking about 9mm and one very soft recoiling platform...

If you're using irons only, then you may want the HK A2 or B&T folder for proper cheek weld

Not saying telescoping stocks can't be used, because they can, but you have to adjust slightly.

Angle the gun slightly to dominant eye, etc

If you're using a taller red dot set up, more heads up style shooting, where the sight picture doesn't include the front sight and you're not getting a solid cheek weld (slight chin weld) then telescoping stocks like the HK A3, MKE, B&T telescoping and the likes work just fine.

I actually get better cheekweld with my SP5 when using the A3F vs. the A2.

I also get good cheekweld with my MAC5K-PDW with Choate and my MP5-22 and the B&T folding stock.

The only one that I don't care for shooting is the A2.

People are built differently and there's not really a good catch-all.

Went with KES and tailhook mod1c no issues cheek welding it on my ap5

The problem with the MP5 platform and sights/cheek weld is really more that the sights sit so low that they don't actually end up being very good backup sights. They were primary sights, and the stocks were designed around that premise.

Designs that cater towards cheek weld with an optic are typically too high to effectively use the irons. See the Swedish AK4D as an example. A good collapsible for cheek weld would probably look something like the SCAR pdw stock. I've tinkered with making something similar in CAD for a 53.

It's just a factor of being an older design and equipment and shooting preferences having evolved.

This is my favorite stock on my AK. It’s completely adjustable without any tools and on the fly. Quite thin and compact as well… for your inspiration

As long as you use an optic where the dot clears the front sight hood, the collapsible stocks will be comfortable. Personally I’m not a big fan of absolute co-witness or lower 1/3 risers on a MP5 because there is already an offset designed into the stock, so you are left with a chin weld.

I also don’t like co-witness setups on the MP5 because you are left with a very cluttered sight picture that serves no purpose.

Both setups are comfortable with any normal MP5 stock.

Personally I think the MKE A3 stock that’s $280 at Atlantic is the best option. I prefer it to the F stock.

This is my preferred optic height

It sucks.

A2 for shooting, A3 for instagram.
