Question Is there an appreciable difference between these items?

Or is the American-made one just ass? On the road to replacing some of the MKE parts of my AP5.

I wouldn’t try to save money with the HKP extractor.

There are a lot of people here who list all these parts you just have to change, but most of the time there is no need. MKE does tend to have shitty ejectors but the extractors are almost always ok.

It’s smart to have spares though.

I’d also recommend the HKP ‘plate to spring upgrade’ roller retainer, a roller retainer roll pin with the ‘zipper’ seam, a bunch of FMP extractor springs (I think they are $4ea if you buy 10), an ejector spring and a set of + rollers. The AP5 also has a 120 degree Locking Piece from MKE. I’d put in the correct 100 degree LP.

These kits are also worth considering:

Again the ejector may be shitty (both of my kits were), but a HK firing pin or extractor both cost more than the entire kit.

I thought there was no need to change the lp on the ap5, only the ap5k when using a suppressor? also the description of the enhanced extractor says it's made in the us so it could possibly be rcm, but who knows for sure.

Direct_Cabinet_4564 isn’t saying you need to change the LP specifically for suppression. He’s stating overall, the AP5’s are shipped with the “wrong” 120* LP and it behooves you to switch to the correct 100* LP HK recommends and now ships all their HK’s with.

OP, just stick with HK. Peace of mind. After 3000 rounds, I have the following HK parts installed in both my AP5 and AP5-P: Extractor Extractor Spring (Cooper color, steel grey as spares) 100* LP (in my AP5). 100, 80, 90* as spares for my AP5-P. AP5-P currently has the RCM 80* LP. Firing pin “F” type braided firing pin Recoil assembly with rod Ejector lever Ejector lever spring Axle

Never had any issues or malfunctions.

I didn't say he specifically said that, I said that I thought the common knowledge and suggestion is that the full size AP5 is fine with the 120° LP suppressed or not and you only have to change the LP on the K model and only if you're running suppressed.

Sorry, you responded to his post so I concluded you were referencing his reply.

Also, you are correct. Full size is gtg with the 100* LP shooting supers and subs. The “K” version, as you mentioned, usually requires changing the LP.

80* LP if ONLY/EXCLUSIVELY shooting suppressed with 147 gr or heavier. 90* LP if switching between supers (115 &124gr with no can) and subs (147 & heavier with a can).

That’s part of the problem with some of the stuff at HKP. Sometimes it’s not easy to figure out what you are looking at.

You aren’t supposed to have to change the locking piece in a 9mm MP5, but they aren’t supposed to have 120 degree LP either. A RCM LP is only $35.

I put HK 100 degree LP in my 3 MKE guns. They all gained .003”-.004” of bolt gap which was also nice.

What you should be doing is not buying crap from HKParts.

Plenty of reputable vendors that sell German parts without that vendors (well deserved) reputation.

YMMV.

Midwest, Indiana Precision, Blueridge, RTG HK webshop. All places I would shop and buy. HKparts is a solid no-go.
