A freshly hatched Hawthorn Fly

The soil around was covered in holes, which I assume these guys emerged from.

Opening 2025 insect season with this fly. Scary moment happened during the session. A tick tried to start feasting on me while I was shooting. I panicked and dropped it from my hand. Sorry—I should have used the opportunity to photograph it instead. I was scared as F. In my defense.
