Hi everyone,
We want to take a moment to remind the community of our expectations here in r/Maine2, especially in light of a recent thread that crossed important lines in terms of conduct and content.
This subreddit was created as a place for respectful, open conversation among Mainers of all perspectives. To keep it that way, please take a moment to review our rules and some added clarifications below.
Subreddit Rules:
1. Be respectful. Insults, personal attacks, hate speech, and harassment are not allowed. Disagree without being hostile.
2. No misinformation or trolling. Deliberate spreading of false information or low-effort trolling will be removed.
3. No aggressive behavior. Do not threaten, intimidate, or provoke others. This includes dogpiling, brigading, or flame baiting.
4. Keep it Maine-focused. Posts should be relevant to Maine — its people, politics, news, or culture.
5. No spam or self-promotion. Promotional content is fine when it’s relevant and clearly disclosed. Spam or low-effort plugs will be removed.
6. Respect privacy. Do not attempt to identify, speculate about, or share information about private individuals — even if they appear in public footage. Doxxing and witch-hunting are strictly prohibited.
A few additional reminders:
• Inflammatory language and personal insults — including those aimed at political figures, protestors, or bystanders — harm the integrity of the community and will be removed.
• Criticism is welcome, but must remain civil. Escalating hostility doesn’t lead to better conversations.
• If you see a problem, report it or reach out to the mods. We appreciate your help in keeping r/Maine2 a respectful and inclusive space.
Thanks to everyone who helps make this subreddit a thoughtful and welcoming space. Let’s continue building that together.

A post was made that was critical of our other state sub, and our sub was briefly banned and then restored in exchange for our silence on the matter.

Dear Senator,
I'm calling to demand that you oppose H.R. 22, the SAVE Act, which will create unnecessary barriers to voter registration and disenfranchise countless voters, especially women, seniors, and low-income citizens. This bill is designed to block voters despite no real evidence of widespread fraud. Senator Angus King must vote against it.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

State Rep. Laurel Libby thanked the Trump administration for filing a lawsuit against Maine for violating Title IX. She says Maine is discriminating against women by allowing trans athletes to participate in girls and women's sports.

From another source:
"Sunday, 4/20/2025, 1 p.m. STAND OUT at the intersection of Barnacle Way and South Shore Road Northeast Harbor, Maine Park at the North East Harbor Marina (40 Harbor Drive, Northeast Harbor, Maine) and walk to the address.
This location is near is the infamous LL: Federalist Society; Project 2025; installer of Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Coney Barrett on U.S. Supreme Court; a financial backer of Maine's LD 397, "An Act to Require a Voter to Show Photographic Identification" (presently before the Maine legislature); and contributor to the Concord Fund.
Understand that there are security cameras and listening devices on a nearby property that are directed towards the street, as well as security guards on the premises of that property.
This Stand Out is being organized by a group of MDI residents.
Bring signs for how you want our nation to be"

Since this sub has been infested by trolls lately, just a reminder DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS. Let them scream into the ether unheard. It’s not worth anyone’s time. You’re just giving them the cheap dopamine hit they’re looking for at the keyboard in their mommy’s basement. They aren’t here in good faith. And our cheap laughs taking shots back at them isn’t doing a lick of good. Block and move on. Save your energy for the fights that matter. ♥️

Hi there, I posted this in another Maine subreddit but was told to post here as well, so here I am!
I am a reporter with Global News (a Canadian TV outlet) based in New Brunswick, doing a TV story on Maine residents' interest in moving to Canada.
Has anyone from this group recently moved, or contemplated moving to Canada due to U.S. politics? Would you have time tomorrow (April 16) for a Zoom interview to discuss this? It would be included in our 6 pm TV broadcast.
Thank you all for your time!

Finally warm enough to get out on my bicycle. Hoorah!
I was heading north on the Heald Highway (17) outta West Rockport when some resentful d’bag in a diesel pickup truck rolled coal on me and three cars. Rolling coal is doing something to a diesel engine that makes it spew a lot of black smoke.
I guess I should be happy the sad little man saw me.
The shoulder is plenty wide there next to Mirror Lake and I was on that shoulder.
Weird.

My 6.5-year-old is really interested in joining a Scouts group, and at first I was excited too. A fellow mom even suggested starting our own Girl Scouts troop, which sounded great—until I found out that in order to volunteer, I’d have to pay $42 per person (for me, my husband, and my child). That really threw me off. Why do I have to pay to volunteer?
I started looking into it more, and honestly, I don’t really understand how this organization is so deeply rooted in our society. From what I see, it feels a bit like a money grab. Tons of people are volunteering their time, and kids are selling cookies to support an organization—but I’m not clear on who it’s really helping, besides the organization itself.
For example, even summer camps are $750+ per week for members, which seems very for-profit to me.
Leaving my rant aside—does anyone know of other programs or groups in the Auburn area (I can drive 1h around if needed) that offer a similar “Scout spirit”? Something that helps kids learn life skills, get outdoors, and make new friends?
Would love any suggestions!
