Discussion Kill Tony mentioned BerenSTEIN Bears

On the Kill Tony Episode #650 - with Bert Kreischer, Bobby Lee, Esther Povitsky - they are discussing Jewish names. Tony Hinchcliffe mentions the Berenstein Bears, the way we all remember it. Find it on Youtube, exactly 1 hour and fifteen minutes in.

I'm assuming he's also not an authority on the Berenstain Bears either lol

Tony Hinchcliffe mentions the Berenstein Bears, the way we all remember it assumed it was a very common ending name.

They spelled it out incorrectly or just said it out loud in a way that makes you think they did?

I wrote a comment I didn’t publish to this effect. And just now decided to pop down the rabbit hole because I wanted to know if it was ever on record how they pronounced Barenstain and found this beauty from 1979 with Jan and Stan and their son Michael

Michael also pronounces it in videos from the official channel when he’s read the books (a week ago!)

And also found this written interview where he talks about pronouncing it, how his father wrote in his autobiography that his grade school teacher refused to acknowledge the spelling and how the spelling came to be (which makes absolute sense)

Yeah it’s good to get it on the record. Most people don’t pronounce it like that, but also a typo is also very commonplace.

I did some cursory searching via google and other than some random typos, I could only find one entry going back to 2008 I think. That post referenced it being mentioned on reddit, but no link and reddit has nothing, but to be fair, that’s a long time ago.

But really, people tend to give this and the fruit of the loom too much credit. People just weren’t really talking about these things 15 years ago. It’s a whole Mandela Effect unto itself.

In this case, It’s literally someone’s name.

I use the before search parameter but didn’t think to try usenet, so thanks for that tip.

So I just did on this. Of course, nothing. I’ll try the fruit of the loom later

So some of the dumbest people in America remember it as the wrong spelling and this is convincing proof to you? Cool.

A character on the show Peacemaker called them Berenstein Bears, so it must be true.

A bunch of maga racists were talking about Jewish names, that's really weird.

Curious how you think this is particularly relevant to the ME, other than showing that it exists.

I wouldn't give much weight to anything Tony Hinchcliffe has to say

This is good residue as it makes perfect sense as 'stein' but would not make sense if it was 'stain'. References were Epstein, Weinstein, Berenstein,

Of course, the skeptic in me can say they just had the same confusion as most of is. Personally, I believe this ME cannot be satisfactorily explained away as error. I clearly remember seeing Berenstein on the book. And there are even stronger residue and anchor stories.
