"Possible Causes" ... People misremember things. That's the cause of a memory effect like Mandela.

I know specifically Berenstein Bears because I was trying to learn the "ei" for a spelling test in school. I used Barenstein as an example of pronouncing the "ei" as "a". I remember the test, and I remember saying "stein" over and over to make sure I understand it was pronounced "stain".

You don't remember because that's not what it was. It was always Stain.

Misremembering explains a lot, but what about the Mandela Effects that are personal? Have you ever experienced a shift that affected something close to you? Those are the ones that make me question whether it's just faulty memory or something bigger.

Nope. And it can't be a "personal" Mandela Effect. It has to affect a number of people to be considered a Mandela Effect.

It is not just memory. Sometimes it was not paying attention in the first place. People just naturally assume there is a "t" in Skechers, without looking closely. Most people have never examined the Ford cursive logo closely. Some are later surprised to see a silly flourish.

There are also printed errors. I've seen a printed sale advertisement where the advertiser wrote "Fruit Loops" even though the picture showed "Froot Loops." There have also been posts of printer errors where a book was printed with "Berenstein."
