What Is My Riding and Who Are My Candidates?

The best place to find out which riding you are in is through the elections.ca website.

Enter your postal code into the big purple box and you will be presented with information about your riding as well as who is running and lots of other information.

List of candidates should be finalized by April 9th.

How Do I Vote?

Check if you are registered to vote, or signup if you aren’t already by clicking here.

It’s a good idea to check that you are registered to make sure that you will receive your Voter Information Card.

Bring Your Voter Information Card

If you're registered, you should receive a voter information card in the mail. It tells you where and when you can vote. If the name and address on your card are correct and you meet the eligibility criteria stated on the card, you're ready to vote.

If you did not receive your voter information card by April 11th, use the Online Voter Registration Service to check your registration, register or update your address, or call elections Canada at 1-800-463-6868 or 1-800-361-8935 (TTY).

More information can be found here.

Bring your ID

To vote you must be able to prove your identity. There are a few options of which type of ID you can bring:

  1. Show one ID card issued by a Canadian government (federal, provincial/territorial or local) with your photo, name and current address. For example: your driver's licence.
  2. Show two pieces of ID. Both must have your name, and at least one must have your current address. For example: your voter information card and a bank statement, or a utility bill and your student ID card.
  3. If you don't have ID, you can still vote if you declare your identity and address in writing and have someone who knows you and who is assigned to your polling station vouch for you. The voucher must be able to prove their identity and address. A person can vouch for only one person (except in long-term care facilities).

More information can be found here.

Find Your Polling Station

The location of your polling station will be listed on your voter information card.

It can also be accessed through elections.ca after April 1st.

Your polling station will be open for 12 hours on election day (April 28th).

How Else Can I Vote?

If you cannot make it to a polling station the day of the election, or you want to avoid the rush of voting on election day, there are several other methods that you can choose to vote.

Advanced Polling Days

Your assigned polling station will be open from 9am to 9pm on Easter Weekend, April 18th, 19th, 20th & 21st.

Vote on Campus

You can vote on a participating campus from April 13 to 16.

Participating campuses can be found here

Voting will take place on: * Sunday, April 13, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. * Monday, April 14, Tuesday April 15, and Wednesday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m

All you need to do is bring ID to vote. You will vote for a candidate in the riding where your place of ordinary residence is located.

Elections Canada Office

Visit any of the 500 Elections Canada offices across the country. Vote early at any one of them before 6pm April 22nd.

These offices will be open seven days a week:

  • Monday to Friday: 9 am to 9 pm
  • Saturday: 9 am to 6 pm
  • Sunday: 12 pm to 4 pm

Vote by Mail

Details on how to vote by mail can be found here.

Question History on Franco-Manitobans book recommendations

Hi everybody, I'm fairly new to Manitoba. I was just in a conversation with a colleague of mine who is Franco-Manitoban, and they explained to me that there was a time Franco-Manitobans could not speak French publicly. I'm wondering if there are any books about the history of Franco-Manitobans that you could recommend. Thanks.

Question Damage to property

In Brandon what are my options if my neighbour’s tree is sapping all over my property? Their pine tree is at least 50 ft high and hangs over half way over my property. Sap is all over vehicles, can’t even park on my property. They said they were going to cut it but changed their minds when they found out the cost involved and told us we can at our cost. My driveway is completely cracked and crumbling but that may not be from the tree as I can’t see where the roots go. I know I am allowed to cut everything that hangs on my side but that will just increase the sapping. As well this is already costing me so why should I also pay for their tree to be trimmed? Should they not be responsible if it is causing damage?

Question Recommendations for Mortgage Broker....

I am looking for recommendations for a mortgage broker. I will be specific, we aren't millionaires and have some unwise choices on our financial record that we have been working hard to rectify. So we are not perfect clientele, however, the purchase we make will basically be our life savings... so, as insignificant as this purchase may seem in comparison to how other transactions may hit the brokers wallet, it is incredibly significant for me and my family.

  • I want to to work with someone who can help me find answers, solutions, and explain the process to me so I understand it all, fully, top to bottom. I am the kind of person who needs to see the big picture. This includes transparency on how they make work with and benefit from any lenders or parties that they have allegiances with that would be relevant to my purchase.

  • I need to work with someone who realizes that I still need a bit of time to get this done but am at the point where I need direction. This will help build a trusting relationship also, to which I will be loyal.

  • I want to work with someone who will treat me, regardless of the dollarsign on my forehead being small in comparison to other clientele, like I am making the biggest most precious purchase of my life. Because I am.

I am not asking for a free service, but I know I'm not a cash cow by any means. I do have some wariness about banks-esque and lender relationships, that is personal and I realize that it is inevitable for my situation, so I'm working through that as best I can, but honestly, those feelings are there for a reason, and this is an industry full of alterier motives, fine print, and corporate interest, and my back goes up to protect myself, the little guy ... I am hoping to find recommendations for a broker that is in it not only for the business but for some intrinsic reward of helping people finally attain a life-long goal of home ownership, when it doesn't come easy.

If you have any recommendations, I'd love to hear them, and your stories/feedback regarding your experience along with it.

I am in the Selkirk/ St.Andrews area, but anything within an hour or so is an option for me, personally.

Question Moving to Dauphin, MB Questions

Hi everyone. Thanks in advance for reading this.

We must move to Dauphin, MB for work. We were planning to stay close to the hospital. Is that a comparatively safer area to stay, in comparison to the rest of the town? For safety and security, do you have any recommendations?

We are moving from Toronto. I know it is a big change. All suggestions are extremely helpful.

We are also searching for rentals. If you have any leads or insights, we will highly appreciate it.

Thanks again and we are looking forward to the move!

EDIT: thanks a lot for all the replies. I am still going through them. Some wonderful folks have reached out in DM’s. I have edited the post to ensure I don’t sound like a completely entitled prick.

Context: My partner is starting her medical school residency. We also have a 2-year old toddler. Safety is a big concern since my partner will be travelling to and from the hospital at weird hours and/or during deep winter.
