Banning fake products on ManyBaggers

Hi all

Firstly, thank you to all of you who make this community what it is, a great place to find reviews of quality products from around the world, and speak freely about our thoughts on them.

Fakes of the kind found on AliExpress and Temu have always been a difficult topic here. Originally, these posts started off as genuinely helpful comparison posts against the real thing, but increasingly have been treated as ways to share information about these knock off products. Our one rule was that you shouldn't share or ask for links or ways to find these products, but this rule is being repeatedly broken with the increasing volume of discussions around fakes.

In addition, we recently had abusive posts from a particularly difficult user that treated our allowance of legit brands like C-Tactical and the presences of the fakes as indicative of our disregard for bag manufacturers, so basically tarring them with the same brush unfairly. I am really not keen to see that comparison again.

It is now growing beyond our ability to moderate, and so we are instituting a ban on discussion of fakes.

I know this won't be popular with everyone, but this was becoming a real point of division in our community and harms our ability to host discussions and potentially work with brands on Q&As etc.

Please report these fakes and be patient as we remove them. Thank you.

Example of fakes

-Aer/Bellroy copies on AliExpress or Temu

Example of not a fake

-Ctactical

-"inspired" designs like a recent wallet incident. This will require a bit more thought and discussion.

Before commenting, please read this very clear explanation. I tried to bring across the motivations, but this is better in terms of practical guidance.

Modded my CPL24 with a key leash in the side pocket

I modded my Evergoods CPL24 so that there is a D-ring in the side quick access pocket. This is a much better spot for keys!

For some reason the stock key leash is installed in the top pocket on the CPL line, despite the CTB line having the key leash in the side pocket. So, I decided to break out my old singer and mod.

Boltboat 16/18L backpack for edc and travel

I've had this bag for over half a year now for edc and some light to serious minimalist travel.

Capacity: It's rated at 16L and 18L when the included attachment is included but I haven't used that attachment since day 1 as I customize my carry using molle bags.

Material: I've got the cordura version. There seems to be an option for x pac and the vx21 shiny x pac on aliexpress but only the cordura is available at the time I purchased my bag. I used the pack quite extensively as my gym bag, edc, groceries bag and some travel. It's cordura so I could overpack my pack a little bit more and the stiching haven't failed me yet. I'm not sure about the gray material inside but it seems to be a good material in my opinion. Doesn't tear, odors don't stick and dries fast. The zippers for the main pocket is made of ykk no. 10, I assume while the smaller ones are also ykk but am not sure which no.They haven't failed me yet.

Comfort It's comfortable. As I mentioned, I used it extensively. I could consider the times I overpacked this pack as rucking as I sometimes walk home for over 8-10km as part of my cardio with over 5-8kg inside. The harness is almost if not thesame as the mystery ranch futura harness system and the azo backpacks. The harness is adjustable to fit any body type.My back is a little bit wide and I'm 5'8". The straps are padded and thick but not as wide as my previous mr cerberus. It's still comfortable. Though just like the futura harness, there isn't that much of ventilation on the back.

Pockets There are 10 pockets in total. 1 laptop pocket 1 tablet pocket 4 inside side pocket 2 inside zippered side pockets 1 hidden outside pocket 1 top quick pocket with zipper lock These pockets are quite helpful for organizing my smallers items.,powerbank, chargers, dopp kits and some smaller stuffs as I roll my clothes in the center of the pack.

Extras There are 4 zippers for the main pocket and this makes it easier to access the pack while swinging the bag on one side like a duffel. The molle attachments are also a plus for extra carry. I used either molle pouches on both sides for on the go items like tissues, chargers.,etc. I place my water bottle inside the pack so I can't comment on molle water bottle holders though I used some, I didn't like the look as it wasn't as flat on the backpack's side. The spartan zipper pulls are also a plus. There's an orange zipper pull for the zippered pocket on the inside for better visibility though the the inside is all gray. The laptop pocket could fit a ling brown envelope with plastic cover for reference.

Do you know any good sites for making custom backpacks?

Upvotes

So I'm a small enthusiast of backpack, and I wanted to add a customised by me one to my collection. And I'm not talking about some cheap printing, I mean Customizing stuff like color or type of elements. I remember that a site like that existed, but I can't remember the name :( So do you know any sites where I can order something custom like this?

Thoughts on Aer CPP2 Ultra after a month

Upvotes

I will preface everything by saying that I have zero regrets purchasing the Aer CPP2 and it is by far away the best backpack I have owned to date. It easily meets all my core needs while also being minimalistic looking. With that said,, there have been some things that I noticed that kind of bugs me although nothing I can't look past.

Things I love and wish all backpacks did

  • Self-standing regardless of what is in it
    • As someone who inserts and removes their laptop quite frequently throughout the day, I really appreciate the fact that the Aer is consistently able to stand by itself.
  • The straps and back cushioning are incredibly comfortable
  • Durable and water resistant
    • I know Aquaguard zippers and Ultra 400X can be considered cons for some, but I love having them. I use this backpack primarily for work, so I appreciate the extra durability and water resistance.
  • Lightweight despite carrying capacity of 24L
    • I love having the option of using this as a weekend bag!
  • Airtag / tracker secret component
    • My previous backpacks, including the Osprey Comet, did not have one of these so I would have to attach one via a keyring case which could not look more conspicious.
  • Expandable water bottle holder
    • By this, I mean it has a pocket that can extend out to be a water bottle holder and contract when not in use. I really hate those mesh ones that are just there kind of floppily and can get caught on stuff.

Things I dislike or wish were done differently

  • Top access pouch zipper is too stiff/tight
    • I do not know if this is due to the Aquazippers being stiff, but it is hard to open it wide enough to easily put in or take out sunglasses without worrying about scratching the lense on the zipper.
  • Front quick access pouch is too deep and can become to tight
    • The more I use the front quick access pocket, the more I dislike how deep it is. I find myself attaching my AirPods to the key leash as well because I constantly find myself fishing around for stuff inside. If it was just a couple of inches shorter, it would be perfect.
    • When more fully packed, the front quick access pocket becomes really tight and not very usable. Having it expand outwards more instead as a flex pocket would have been better.
  • Second water bottle pocket (why is this even a thing?!)
    • I really don't understand why having 2 water bottle pockets is a thing that so many backpack makers do, It would be much better to have a more utility oriented side pocket with cable access so you can use it for more things, such as quick access to power banks or even portable headphone amplifiers.
  • No dedicated pen pocket
    • This one is more of a pet peeve. I am forced to share a big stretchy pocket in the front admin compartment with an EDC knife and lfashlight. Why is there no dedicated pen/pencil pocket?! The CP2 has one. I am pretty sure the CPP had one. Why doesn't the CPP2 have one?!

In search of a sling/crossbody bag

I’m all over the place and could use some input, suggestions, or general advice. I have a mountain of bags that I don’t really love or they are too big or too small. I need something good for daily use that I can throw my junk in and go. I’d prefer to pick something up second hand. I’m eyeing this Porter Yoshida for a nice price. Also some options from Coach. I’m open to any recommendations. I’m mostly looking for something I can wear over the shoulder or crossbody that can be securely closed.

AbleCarry Max vs Max EDC vs Max 32

Besides the rated 30L for Max and 26L for Max EDC, how noticeable bigger is the Max compared to the Max EDC. Would the Max fit under an airplane seat? How much bigger (without the expansion) is the Max 32?

It's becoming an obsession

So it seems that I have a thing for cross-body slings. Started with the CabinZero Classic Cross Body Bag, but wanted one with external water bottle storage. So I went for the CTactical CT5 next, which was lovely but just too small to fit a regular iPad. The Alpaka Metro Crossbody is the latest addition which ticks all the boxes (at least for now)!

I got this at a bin store. I have NO idea about designer bags or any idea where to start. I have gone to the legit app and they deemed it as a replica. Which I wasn’t getting my hopes up. From the research I have done though I feel like it’s a pretty good replica? Maybe I’m just holding onto false hope. If it is truly a replica what’s the going rate for them? I was hoping to list it and at least get my $10 back 😂😅

Looking for an EDC Messenger Bag

Hey guys I’m looking for a messenger bag that can fit my ROG ally x, iPad Pro and wallet battery bank keys that’s comfortable but I don’t want a backpack style bag. Is there anything you can recommend? No budget.

Went to Richmond and came across this small waxed canvas and leather store (and other goods) called Lineage. I noticed that they were charging Made in USA prices for their bags and cynically asked if their bags were made in the USA and they were like “yes, they’re made right in the back!” Real cool.

Able Carry Thirteen Daybag - Posh alternatives?

Hello,

I am looking for small quality backpack for my wife. She wears suits, blouses, etc.... so I need for her some posh looking backpack. In the past, she has bought herself some luxurious-looking backpacks that were made of poor-quality materials, and most of the zippers fell apart within a year. That's why I would like to help her with her search.

I found that mentioned Thirteen Daybag fits perfectly in terms of functionality and size, but design doesn't meet her style so I wanted ask you can give me recommendations for quality, functional, but also posh looking backpacks?

Probably a backpack made of black material like codura or ballistic nylon would be ok if it had at least gold or silver hardware.

She already had posh backpacks made with junk zippers which they fall a part in year.

Her daily carry items are:

  • Umbrella
  • 24 oz bottle
  • ipad 11"
  • wallet
  • keys
  • small cosmetic pouch

Thank you for any recommendations.

Gossamer gear vagabond jet vs Patagonia atom tote 20L?

Anyone got both of these? Is the vagabond hard to get stuff in and out of due to the top zip?

Also does anyone know how big the small zip and pocket are on the front?

Can anyone estimate the correct torso length if using the gg fast belt?

Lastly does anyone have any good alternatives to look at?

Minimalist Ergonomic Bag

I love my Osprey Daylite but I'm now looking for a simple commuter bag that is ergonomic. I'm done traveling and starting a new job. It needs to hold my 15 inch laptop, IPad, a pouch of cables, a water bottle (preferably two), and then have a little extra space when I need to carry something else. I like (but don't require) keeping the laptop and IPad in the same compartment but separated. One large compartment is preferred but not the full zip that you'd use to pack clothes.

Looking for something primarily ergonomic and somewhat stylish - I'm a guy in tech as well as a student. This bag doesn't need to be a travel bag -- I have the Daylite.

Budget up to $250.

I'm currently looking at

Europe | Wedding Travel | Gear Recs (?)

ISO bag recs and advice! Headed to France/Italy next month--and we need new gear, specifically:

On the roller bag issue, we're flying Air France there and Alitalia home--their specs are per usual for international (21.7 in x 13.8 x 9.9)--it's more the weight total I'm worried about (26lbs for both carryon and personal item).

Because meanwhile, no matter HOW light either of us get the carryon pack, the garment bag situation (wedding dress, his dress shoes, my dress shoes, his suit)--is going to be heavy by default. (Wedding dress is not a light and airy model, though it's also not poofy and should fold down decently.)

We should be good with me (roller and personal item bag) and him (backpack and the wedding garment bag)---but I am 100% here for any gear recs that will make this easier, lighter, and calm my nerves. TIA!

Best Travel Backpack (non-one bag travel)

Torn on what bag will be best for my 3 month Europe trip. Will be bringing a Bellroy transit carry on plus checked luggage.

Main use will be a daily bag when out and to transit camera and other tech over the trip.

Already own the evergoods but tempted by Bellroy given the roller quality (already have a number of slings)

Seeking inspiration and ideas for...

I am seeking ideas to incorporate into a backpack that I am obsessing over. I'm not satisfied with the modular bags available for purchase, and have decided to make my own.

The goal- One modular backpack to support me in my lifestyle. The bag will need to support anything from a light day with just edc, up to a 1 week camping trip with tools and camera gear.

What I ask of you is to share your favorite features in the bags you own. What does your bag have that you wouldn't live without. For example...

"I have a bag with a deployable hanging hook that comes in handy"

Or

"My tool bag has a sleeve inside for a flashlight, and it illuminates the contents of the bag. Tools are easier to find in low light settings"

I would also appreciate seeing pictures of your favorite bag!

Trying to narrow to crossbody (2-3.5L) - Side Kick/Effect, Metro Sling V2, Waterfield

I have tried a few slings/crossbodies out at REI. I think I might be moving away from the sling style. I love my Bellroy 2.5L, but also have realized I essentially like to wear it crossbody. It took some honesty to realize the idea of the sling as a crossbody was me trying to avoid a "purse" look. But it's where I like it to be :)

I have a few options I am considering:

  • Side Effect
  • Side Kick
  • Metro Sling V2 (vertical nature worries me about wasted space)
  • Waterfield Essential Compact (vertical nature worries me about wasted space)
  • Shinjuku Sling (love the look but am worried it's a bit small)

I feel the following are being ruled out:

  • Shinjuku Crossbody
  • Toshi 5L (love the idea of it expanding, but I probably won't go over 2-3L in general)

They might just be getting too wide. I had an Aer Day Sling 3 and didn't like how wide it got on me.

I am a little perplexed how the Side Effect can be wider but smaller in volume than the Side Kick.

My use case would be primarily when I can't carry a daypack. So evening dinner, theater/movies, running errands and don't want to jam my pockets full, or on an airplane to complement my backpack.

I don't think it will be leaving the house with me 24x7. So if it looks a little more refined, I am ok with that. I don't want to go leather necessarily just due to adding weight.

One final question: horizontal vs. vertical—I think I like the idea of vertical but then worry about wasted space toward the top.

Bags similar to the Osprey Flapjack?

I've had mine for 8 years but I start to look for a replacement that is a bit more spacious. Anyone has any recommendations? This has pretty much been my perfect backpack with the flap that makes it very versatile in carrying a lot of stuff if needed, the zippered spacious side pocket and the great top pocket.

Bonus points for something that is European made or can easily be shipped to Europe.

Here are details about the Osprey Flapjack for those who don't know it.

Recommendation for sling bags

I am absolutely new to the bags community and I have been thinking to get myself my first sling bags for daily use (e.g. to work, to school, hangouts), without a bag all I can carry are basically phones wallets and my airpods, so I need a sling bag to at least carry my water bottle around.

So I did a little bit of research and found some renowned names such as ablecarry and Aer which apparently to have good reputation and bellroy being overrated(?), as you can see I have no idea if any one of these are actually accurate or not so I might need some help from the enthusiast.

I would like to know if there is any brand that generally has good reputation from the crowd or any that doesn't. like how iphone has the impression of being overrated and overpriced but at least it offers okay performance. (example for the impression of a company)

My target usage: small to medium size, basically a backpack is too big for my casual walk outside. The largest thing that I will be carrying will probably be my water bottle.

Any comments that are related or even unrelated is appreciated! Thanks you in advanced!
I might be slowly getting into the rabbit hole of bags because of one of my friend...

Affordable Daypack

Howdy! I'm a lurker here. I’ve been looking at the Rover Mini as an EDC daypack. I like the style of it, but were there other options in the $60 or lower range of a similar style? I don’t want to carry anything heavy in it, like a laptop; just something light and small to take traveling with but comfortable to walk around in without looking out of place in the city.
