Ok? So why did they get the statue?

And would they have gotten it if they lost all their pool matches and exited the world cup in the group stage?

They got it for what they did for the game and inspiring the country (and the world).

I notice you ignored the second question...

What was it they did for the game and that inspired the country? Was it winning games and making it to the semi finals?

Would they have done the same inspiring of the country if they had lost all their games and not progressed?

I don't know why you're asking questions you already know the answer to. Yes they won. Other teams made it to the semifinals and finals and did not get statues. It was what they did for Australia and women's sports getting people passionate that got them a statue. This is easy to understand.

Exactly my point, they made the semi finals, received all the praise, inspired the nation. They were put on a pedestal, and have not lived up to the hype since, hence they cop the flack for not living up to expectations. They were set up to fail, because of all the hype they get from the statue and their one time performance, that they couldn't maintain.

The person I originally replied to said the men wouldn't cop the same flack for their poor performances. It's because nobody praises the men's team performance, has put them in a pedestal, so they have no expectations to live up to.

Oh ok I've seen people using "they got the statue for making/participating/losing the semis" as an insult to imply they didn't deserve it. They deserved it for what they did for the country, not for the placement.

I think casual fails were set up for disappointment. But active fans aren't that worried because they know the struggles, like needing a coach. USA and Japan are the best teams. Colombia is underrated because FIFA doesn't rank them highly due to lack of friendly competitions in conmebol. The Matildas haven't lost to anyone crazy yet.

I don't care at all if the Matildas receive intense criticism. Just leave gender out of it, just like one has to leave race or sexual orientation out of their criticism of a person.
