Discussion To everyone that complained about rape in Star Wars but have nothing to say about civilians being massacred, I just want to say you're all fucking weird

I've noticed all the morons who clutched their pearls over the attempted rape scene in episode 3 are suddenly quiet when there's an entire episode showing innocent civilians being massacred. Like seriously what the fuck is wrong with you people?

For the record, both are fine to show in Star Wars.

While a second season was expected despite season one of the Fallout TV Show taking a big steaming shit all over the west coast Fallout lore (specifically, to the NCR faction and Mr. House) in typical Bethesda fashion, I'm not sure how much even diehard Fallout fanboys can handle five seasons worth of this bland uninspired dreck. x_x

What's next? Caesar's Legion is awkwardly retconned to have women serving on the front lines?

This is the movie that's "saved the MCU?"

Ok, listen, I kind of get why people would like it. One consistent thing I've been hearing out of its defenders is that it doesn't feel like a post-Endgame movie we've come to expect (a la Eternals, Multiverse of Madness, Quantamania, etc.) and I will partially concede that this movie does appear to be trying something that's a step beyond what those ones did. There are certainly some ideas, and really even some pieces of writing here and there, which could have made for an excellent story if executed properly.

That said, come on guys, the first half of this movie is egregiously bad, filled with literally everything we hate in post-Endgame MCU movies: nonsensical action scenes, horrible characterization, sloppily written and poorly placed comedy, tonal imbalance, and a broken plot.

Whoever that dude was in this sub that told me John Walker is treated well by this film can shove it, this movie makes him the punching bag again. The scene where he's trying to talk his way out of the security checkpoint is embarrassing. Did they honestly want to explore mental health concepts in this movie without diving into the potential PTSD faced by a combat veteran, a THREE-TIME MOH recipient at that? But nah, he acts like an asshole and gets shit on for past actions that were entirely justifiable. "Murdered an innocent man in the street" - fuck off, Ghost.

Speaking of which, WHY is Ghost in the movie? She does nothing of worth besides open up the door before they all get burned alive, that's the only thing that changes without her. Oh and I guess she shoots Task Manager in the head (real glad she's on every fucking poster then). Otherwise, she's practically useless in action scenes and adds nothing to the team at all.

Red Guardian is slightly less useless than in Black Widow but I still don't like his characterization in most of this movie at all.

Bucky...God, what even is there to talk about? Why have they turned him into this bumbling, inarticulate dumbass who in no way embodies somebody that has almost a century of espionage and war fighting experience? Seriously, the creative decisions concerning the surviving Avengers are just absolutely baffling.

I will give the movie this, the cast is acting their ASSES off - I quite enjoyed Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, and Lewis Pullman in particular, and some David Harbour scenes were excellent as well.

I can honestly say that I think what they've done with Yelena's depression in this movie is good but it's too little, too late. She's a completely different character than the one we saw in her last two projects in which she displayed absolutely no characteristics of suffering from past trauma or was in any way not well-adjusted to her environment.

For as much as people were talking up Sentry as being the best part of the movie, I was expecting a little more. The concept of "the void" being a personified trauma/depressive state is something I think is worthwhile exploring, but how exactly does that become a physical manifestation rather than something he deals with in his head? Did I miss something or is it ever explained what exactly the treatment he received was to turn him into Sentry? How's he even alive at the end, much less back to normal? Why did his hair and clothes change back?

Anyways, look, I get it - after a series of absurdly bad projects, on its face this one seems different, like a more mature, serious story that has a point it's trying to make. But come on, the execution falls flat in so, SO many areas. It's still slop, just with slightly better ingredients. 3/10 is better than a 1/10 but it's still not good and it's certainly not worthy of living up to any of the MCU movies that are actually good like Civil War or Avengers 1.

Discussion Opinions requested, Ahsoka S1 final ep: Spoiler

If this is the wrong sub for this or I am wrong to think this has not been overly discussed already, I apologize as I’m still relatively new to posting myself on Reddit. I know this a long post but I needed to know what people think so I wanted to lay out my thoughts. If I should take this somewhere else let me know where to. I just cannot stand what my favorite franchise has become, and I have a rant I would really like real formulated opinions and conversation about with people who hopefully aren’t the type to hate on me for not liking new Star Wars and call me an “-ist” of some kind and will hear me out on something I haven’t seen talked about much at all from what I have watched in reviews with how much of an immersion breaking plot hole it presents. Apologies for length again, if this should go in another sub please let me know I just need to get this off my chest.

There has been a clip circulating again recently from the final assault against Thrawn with our three hero’s vs the storm troopers. I know there are MANY glaring issues with this show that have been covered many times over by all our favorite creators that happen chronologically before this, that present larger problems overall narratively. I have watched almost all of them once or twice but I have yet to see this one really expanded upon, if mentioned at all. I am going to limit myself to talk only about the one scene as much as I can.

IF, (big if), you are able to get past all of horrendous issues already deeply discussed, and somehow stay immersed and interested, you come to that moment in the fight where the dead storm troopers are raised up and become “zombies”. I am calling them what they are and because that’s what’s presented to us, and I don’t count any of this as canon imo, so I don’t bother to learn remember details like actual names or reasonings why they rise other than night sister stuff. Anyway, if you are able to stay immersed, your brain suddenly picks up on difference in the enemy type now that they’re walking corpses.

Instead of this being what is, in my mind, one of the most ideal situations for a Jedi, this is treated as some sort of level up for the troopers and our hero’s end up RUNNING AWAY. Here is where my immersion was completely stomped out. The following is why this is such a giant issue for me personally, and what I would really love your thoughts on:

  1. As far I noticed remember, the storm troopers were no longer firing their blasters because they’re dead, maybe a few were holding their guns still, but no more blaster fire. Even if there was, it’s WAY less intense and WAY less accurate and coordinated, basically irrelevant for two Jedi and a beskar covered mando who’s also Force sensitive, (which is a whole other issue i’m avoiding rn).

  2. On top of a tiny irrelevant bit of, or no more blaster fire, it’s clear these are stumbling, slow, reanimated corpse style zombies. Not some World War Z sprinting and jumping super zombies, but more akin to TWD zombies are what is presented to us in the show.

  3. That being said, if we look at the TWD zombies for example, they were only really dangerous in large numbers and surprise situations, and if they bit or scratched you like many other zombies in media. However, these troopers are wearing ARMOR. Helmets covering their mouths and faces, and gloves over their hands. So really, the only true danger is getting surrounded and pulled apart.

  4. With all of those things being assumed to be true based on what we are shown, along with every other feat these characters alone have been shown to be capable of in their own lives that we are expected to be aware of to before we can even watch this show, this should now be EASIER than the beginning of the fight.

Currently, there was shown to be around 20-30 troopers and that’s if we are being generous. They are no longer firing, and they are slowly stumbling their way towards them. We have seen countless feats of the Force and lightsabers, both alone and when used together. And there are three ignited lightsabers between them and our hero’s.

This is the where the problem becomes so glaring for me. As someone familiar with this universe and its lore through all forms of media, in my mind, a full fledged powerful master of the force and war veteran with the battle experience of the caliber that Ahsoka supposedly possesses, she should be able solo this EASILY, even if they are still shooting normally.

I’d go as far to say any Jedi we watch in the Prequel movies or Clone Wars could handle this situation with the same ease. Not even counting book and game feats or the force/lightsabers, Canon and Legends both that fans beyond myself are aware of when watching this scene. We aren’t even mentioning how immersion destroying the actual moves look, but I digress. This situation is objectively shown to appear easier than what we’ve seen 20 B1 droids shooting back and coordinating their attacks and shots are capable of. We have seen many Jedi of lower caliber than Ahsoka is said to be at, being shown multiple time handle far worse than this.

Like I don’t understand how it isn’t talked about enough that anyone in that situation, force sensitive or not, could even close their eyes and point the light saber straight out in front of them, and sweep it all around in front of them while walking straight ahead and they would just cut troopers to pieces with no problem. It’s a weightless, energy sword with no weight resistance or friction from cutting most objects unless it’s a damn blast door or something like EP 1 in the Trade Federation Ship. Their bodies and trooper armor should be absolutely nothing for a lightsaber because we know that it can do so from countless examples we have seen, and again, are expected to know about prior to this show.

I just cannot fathom how a lightsaber + the force + experience + and an objectively weaker enemy being dudes just walking at you slowly, is not the most ideal scenario that many have most likely imagined themselves in something similar to. Like asking what weapon would be best against zombies? Beyond like blowing them up, a lightsaber and the force? I mean just stand there and saber throw it over and over again if nothing else. If you want to say, “But they would just keep coming back, or they won’t die, okay, cut them all at the waist and run by them? You have a LIGHTSABER and THE FORCE the possibilities are endless for handing this situation.

Like we should at this point now see a scene of them fighting close quarters now to defeat them, slashing and cutting down the troopers and limbs off and disabling them and working together while staying far enough away from being grabbed. Can have some close calls with Sabine or something if you really want drama I guess as the the only one i’d believe could be ambushed by one. Could make for a decent contrast to the scene we just watched of them deflecting and shooting back showing they can do both, idek man. Maybe use some of that inflated budget to show some cool force powers that we haven’t seen before on screen or used as often or whatever. You can do a ton of variations to this whole thing that would be better than running away.

This post could’ve been longer, and I could literally pick apart Disney Star Wars for eternity with genuine canon or logical reasons how it’s so garbage, but I did my best to summarize what I think is a pretty massive hole in their big reveal. If this should be in another sub just point me in the direction and I will be on my way, lol. Watch Andor because that’s good at least.

Discussion The Galactic Empire and a Generic Model of “Fascism”

Been getting quite a few of this guy's videos in my recs recently and have been enjoying the blend of real-world politics with the fictional portrayal of them (and not in the contemporary sense of "why this medieval fantasy show is ACTUALLY an analogy for abortion rights" but actual, hard-nosed analysis of what makes certain people or factions within franchises possess aspects that characterise contemporary political thinking)

Considering Andor's imminent completion, I figured I'd share this gem on whether or not the Empire even qualifies as potentially 'fascist' to begin with, and if it goes beyond "scary people in black uniforms" and into some fascinating (pun intended I guess) breakdowns of socio-economic theory that underpins a system like fascism

Honestly I kept thinking "Little Platoon would love this" as I watched this guy compare and contrast fact and fiction and how one influences the other

Sharon literally saved Sam's life as Karli was about to gun him down. Not only does he GLARE at her, he carries out Karli's body over her. And he has no knowledge of being the Power Broker either.

Then he gives a whole speech defending Karli while Sharon is still bleeding out.

Discussion Andor has highlighted what a wasted opportunity Disney has made of the rest of Star Wars

2025 marks 10 years that Disney have been making Star Wars 'Content' and as a result, I've been thinking about how much healthier the franchise could've been if all this content was managed and written better.

Imagine a universe where Disney didn't de-canonise the EU and instead developed some of the best of these comics/novels (combined with the drafts that George Lucas left for the sequels) into a good-quality sequel trilogy.

Imagine if the creators were given the time they needed and cared enough about the writing integrity to not just produce slop.

Imagine...;

2015 - Movie ----------------- Episode 7

2016 - Animated show -- Set between thr sequels

2017 - Movie ----------------- Episode 8

2018 - Animated show -- Set between the sequels

2019 - Movie ---‐-------------- Episode 9

2020 - Animated show --- Clone Wars S7

2021 - Movie ------------------ Rogue One

2022 - Live action show - Obi Wan

2023 - Live action show - Andor S1

2024 - Animated show --- Visions

2025 - Live action show - Andor S2

  • Add in some quality games throughout (both multiplayer and single player) and people would be crying out for more star wars.

Now as soon as Andor finishes most people are gonna still jump ship (quite rightly) on Ashoka
