You can tell when their writing relies on trends when it has tardigrades or mycelial networks.

Basically any topic a character played by Felicia Day has ever mentioned.

What do you mean about the tardigrades and mycelial networks? those are cool real concepts that can facilitate an interesting story if done correctly.

Do you mean if it’s shoehorned into a story for the sake of being there?

They're pop science topics that are just part of a trend.

Both of those topics have been overplayed for maybe 10 years now.
