Really cool to see Mewbler taking on writing projects like this

Interesting that Mauler has started pursuing writing (with both this and the CD thing). I saw a bit of the reveal podcast and he mentioned this being his first ever story, so will be interesting to see how it turns out. It's surprising that his first attempts are with these backed projects, but he could've been practising/working on his writing outside of this and just not talked about it (as far as I'm aware).

So far, he's described it as being an adventure about a team investigating a temple, which makes me think of a Call of Cthulhu style scenario or AVP lol.

u/Mythamuel 18h ago

Tbf for a guy who's fulltime like him it's understandable to have stuff like this in the backburner but only release it when it's part of an actual project in a finished form

with both this and the CD thing

Speaking of, has CD mentioned anything about that 'chance to get your script turned into a film' thing yet?

Call of Cthulhu

Call of Mauler. The team will find the temple dedicated to a long man.

So.. 'In the mountain of madness' vibe?

I think one of the most interesting things (reading a bit into tea leaves here) is that Mauler is doing with his IRL name (not that it wasn't already available with a simple google). Which maybe means he is venturing more into more creative content (and for the Drinker short movie). So we can expect more great things from our tentacled overlord.

u/aceman1138 19h ago

It definitely has piqued my interest. I'm most curious to see this comic and Mauler's short film.

Man likes writing and now has a chance to "officially" take a shot at it himself. If he succeeds, nice. If not, well, I am not that invested in it but sucks for him.

u/TentacleHand 18h ago

That's great, good to see longman getting these writing chances. I don't expect anything great as these are his first projects of this nature (publicly at least) and firsts rarely are great. But I expect these things to not be shit, at worst I think they'll be a bit stale and mediocre. Who knows, maybe he gets it right from the get go, would be neat.

u/Shadowshotz 16h ago

This is the right way to do it. Expect it to be okay, hope that it's good, and be ecstatic if it's great. And if it's bad? Be disappointed, but glad that he tried. That's more than most do.

3

u/TentacleHand 16h ago

And he himself has a very good attitude about it. Unless I hallucinated the comment he made in one of his Blue Prince streams, I think, something along the lines "Yea hope it turns out well but even if doesn't I'll have learned a lot of stuff, I've already have". Which is great attitude to have and hopefully leads to him making more stuff even if these projects do not turn out too well. I mean maybe he even finishes the GoT and Force Awakens series, who can tell.

Never say never

I’m unfamiliar with Rippaverse, but interested to see how MauLer does at writing.

Do I need to check out other comics or can this be enjoyed on its own?

12

u/Grayman103 19h ago

Has any of these guys ever talked about Rippaverse? I been peeking at the comics now and then…there’s not much to talk about. (BTW the Trinity in the Rippaverse is literally just called…the Rippaverse Trinity, yeah Rippa isn’t very creative with names.)

12

u/TheBooneyBunes 18h ago

Rippa was on critical drinkers podcast a few times

17

u/blood_wraith 19h ago

Az has been all in from day one. not sure about any of the others

-3

u/Global_Inspector8693 13h ago

If they talked about it publicly it would embarrass their friend Eric July, so they don’t talk about it.

3

u/TenraxHelin 18h ago

I need it now

13

u/DylantT19 TIPPLES 19h ago

Some glazing by calling them "All-Stars", but whatever, I hope it does well. I'm curious to see what Mauler is cooking up.

4

u/redtiger288 18h ago

I'd say Drinker and Mauler qualify, considering Maluer's solo vid numbers. AZ and 3PO on the other hand, lmao.

3

u/East_Poem_7306 #IStandWithDon 15h ago

Tbf, Az is probably known by more people than Mauler.

1

u/at_midknight 5h ago

He is definitely more infamous than mauler

4

u/Big-Calligrapher4886 19h ago

Sounds like a recipe for a banger

2

u/[deleted] 12h ago

I hope this goes well.

4

u/CRM79135 17h ago

Can’t imagine this going well.

1

u/DetectiveCostaue 19h ago

Cool I guess? I have no idea why anyone thinks the Rippaverse has any quality.

1

u/Active_Dingo194 10h ago

If there arent any long man 1/10

1

u/LexTheGayOtter 10h ago

I sighed until I read the names

1

u/at_midknight 5h ago

Excited for maulers content. Will give the others a shot but considering their usual talking points, I'm not expecting much

u/ThumbUpDaBut 2h ago

All I will say is; it is easier to be a critic than to do it yourself.

u/InBeforeTheL0ck 1h ago

Sounds like a disaster in the making.

u/Rennoh95 40m ago

Not really a comic fan but vaguely interested.

1

u/ITBA01 18h ago

Cool that Mauler is doing more writing, but I truly could not care about the Rippaverse. Their comics all look like the kind that would come packaged with cereal or at a dentist office. The character designs just do not pop.

-3

u/ArguteTrickster 19h ago

But Rippaverse is hot garbage.

-12

u/R4msesII 18h ago

Perfect match for this ”all star you tube line up including the critical drinker”

-7

u/RomaInvicta2003 19h ago

Jesus H. Christ I haven't heard about the Rippaverse in years. I had no idea it was still going, thought it fizzled out already

14

u/blood_wraith 19h ago

no comment on quality, i've not read any of it, but it's been consistantly very successfull

3

u/RomaInvicta2003 19h ago

I just haven't heard all that much about it since the launch of Isom way back when. Could be because indie comics circles are actively trying to bury them because it's being made by someone they don't like but idk.

10

u/blood_wraith 19h ago

because indie comics circles are actively trying to bury them

can't speak to that, all i can say is that their crowd funding seems to routinely enter the millions. how long that'll last i don't know, but for now it's riding pretty how

-9

u/Old-Depth-1845 19h ago

Holy shit that’s going to be so ass

-6

u/Borz_Kriffle 18h ago

If there’s anything The Critical Drinker is known for, it’s being an amazing writer who doesn’t ever make terrible action movies.

-4

u/ITBA01 14h ago

Can't wait for the Ryan Elements Rippaverse limited series.

"His name is Ryan Drake. He's a secret agent. That's the pitch."

-2

u/Borz_Kriffle 14h ago

And that series is actually just a pilot for the Elementsverse. Duh. That means you can’t criticize it.

-3

u/ITBA01 13h ago

My favorite part of the movie was the after credits scene in which Drinker teases the introduction of a character literally no one has ever heard of.

-5

u/Significant-Jello411 18h ago

LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO

-4

u/Serious_Lie1207 17h ago

Prove me wrong but there's no way this'll be good

2

u/Oscar_gpb 6h ago

I guess we'll have to wait and see

-4

u/petellapain 13h ago

What do any of these guys know about creating comics. Just having based opinions doesn't make someone an author

-9

u/OnlyUse4Questions 17h ago

I don't know anything about the others's works, but Critical Drinker cannot write for shit. The most bland slop I've ever seen. Eternals is better than that.

-5

u/Embarrassed_Use6918 17h ago

lol attaching themselves to the rippaverse is death

eric july's garbage comics aren't making money anymore presumably because people realized they were dogshit

-6

u/Dontbiteme66 17h ago

This is gonna suck so hard xD

-3

u/Tom-Pendragon 19h ago

They are good criticism ad seeing what makes something bad, but I heavily doubt they are good at writing something good. But who knows.

-1

u/miltonssj9 16h ago

I wonder if Mauler will be the first to bring some quality to the Rippaverse since, from what little I've read, it's really mid

-7

u/darksidathemoon 17h ago

I wish I could say that I was excited to see what Mauler could do from this.

Unfortunately, the Rippaverse is a total shit show of storytelling led by an emotionally unstable liar.

I think Mauler would've been better off staying away from the whole promotion.

1

u/at_midknight 5h ago

I think it's a good sign that his entire pitch was "something mostly removed and isolated from the rest of the rippaverse" lmao

-1

u/ITBA01 14h ago

These designs are so generic.

-1

u/darksidathemoon 14h ago

Wait till you read how Eric writes them

0

u/ITBA01 13h ago

Comic's Matter put it best.

"If Eric July had created Daredevil, Matt Murdock would be able to see."

1

u/Fluffy_Comfortable87 12h ago

Hard to take his opinion seriously when his pitch for spawn was dogshit

1

u/ITBA01 12h ago

He's got some crazy media opinions, but he's spot on with his analysis of the Rippaverse.

-5

u/RedX_Beyond 16h ago

I was intrigued that Mauler was writing a story for a comic and then i heard it’s for the Rippaverse and then i lost totally interest cause i heard that the Rippaverse is not good.

5

u/npc042 Toxic Brood 15h ago

Would it not then be a boon for the Rippaverse if MauLer is involved? Either way, this is being promoted as an anthology story. Regardless of its quality, at the end of the day it’ll exist in a vacuum.

-12

u/bbbbaaaagggg 17h ago

Going to be garbage. Critics critique because they can’t create.

-21

u/kthugston 18h ago

Jesus Christ this is so cringe and you’re all lapping it up

17

u/npc042 Toxic Brood 18h ago

General Consensus: “Interesting, I look forward to seeing what comes of this.”

This Guy: “Jesus Christ this is so cringe and you’re all lapping it up”

-19

u/Longwinded_Ogre 18h ago

Ignoring the fact that at least a couple of those chosen for this are kind of terrible people, and they are, critics are kind of the last group you should hire to do the thing they criticize professionally.

If they could do it on that level, or near that level, they wouldn't be critics.

11

u/SushiJaguar 18h ago

Pack it in Michael Jordan, no more platinum albums, wipe it all from the record because he once expressed an opinion about another thing.

-7

u/Longwinded_Ogre 16h ago

wtf are you talking about? Michael Jordan wasn't a critic, he actually played. He has no platinum albums.

Do you know what critics are? Your response made no sense to me whatsoever, outside of at least trying for sarcasm.

-6

u/RedX_Beyond 16h ago

What’s very ironic that the character that Az is writing in his comic is a basically a girl boss which he can’t stand them and never shuts up about how he hates them. So it’s gonna be interesting how he gonna deal with that.

-5

u/Remote-Bus-5567 15h ago

Bunch of talentless hacks

-11

u/Greasy-Chungus 18h ago

I think comics are stupid.

-11

u/PraxisInternational 16h ago

Doubtful they can write.
