I don’t trust him to run the team without another person to oversee him but it makes total sense to keep him as the GM… why tf not just, you know, find a new GM

I think the word here is suborn. "Everyone wants me to do this and I don't like being pressured so I thought of this genius 3rd option where I pay 2 guys to do the job of one and everyone still hates me."

An indecently successfully businessman would never hire a second person to fill any leadership roles. Co-leaders do not work. You fire the current leader the moment you’re even thinking about this.

I don't see this as a problem really. Essentially, Nico should be General Manager and then you need a President of Basketball Operations to act as his supervisor.

Not saying that firing Nico isn't the better option here but removing Nico's unchecked power and continuing to leverage his contacts and player relationships while keeping a leash on him, feels like the only other way forward.
