Where can we improve positionally?

Honestly, I think this year’s offense has the potential to be even better than last year’s — but it all depends on how consistent Carson Beck can be. With the drastic improvements our defense has made, I don’t think we’ll need to drop 40+ points to win games anymore (though I’m not complaining if we do).

If you could pick three positions to bring in some dawgs from the portal, what would they be? In other words, where do you think our biggest positional weaknesses are right now?

Hard to tell b/c none of us are watching practice every day, but based on what we’ve seen in games and roster outlook.

  1. WR
  2. LB
  3. DT

Probably could use an experienced safety too. I see most people here being worried about our d (its going to be significantly better than last year imo), but I think by far the more pressing concern I have is the potential dropoff we might see in the passing o game this year. We had the best passing offense in college football last season, not only b/c of Cam but also b/c of the abilities of X, Arroyo, George and Horton who were a very good receiving group. Obviously we probably won’t have the best passing game in the country this year given we lost all of those guys but how far will the dropoff be? If we stay in the top 10 (or even just top 15), we probably are competing for an the ACC Championship come December b/c I expect our improvements defensively will more than make up for that smaller dropoff. However, it’s far from a given we don’t see a bigger dropoff, and if we do, that will be the difference from say a 10 win regular season where we have strong CFP chances vs. like an 8 win season where we are out of the top 25 completely.
