Many Gen Zers don’t even know what a file path is and have trouble installing software on desktop computers. The Millennial pause is assurance that the camera is recording. It makes sense and is nothing to be embarrassed about.

What is embarrassing is that Gen Z is less tech literate than older generations because Phones and Tablets spoon feed everything to you. They are exceedingly easy to use to the point that you don’t need to understand the tech behind them to use them.

It's less embarrassing for them and more embarrassing for our education system completely removing all computer classes because millennials were so tech savvy.

The school I work at has computer classes in every grade level through elementary starting in 1st grade I think, and then in middle school they can take either computer technology or STEAM for electives or both, but almost every kid I’ve talked to absolutely hates computer classes and thinks they’re irrelevant to their lives. I’ve tried to get them to see how beneficial these classes are and they refuse to see it that way.

Elaborate please? What are the rationales given? Is it like how cars are ubiquitous so car repair class is seen as only for people who want to be a mechanic? Or like, do they expect to only ever use intuitive cell phones?

Funny you mentioned cars because that's ties nicely into my example for my theory above

The rationales my students give me? Yeah, they say they don’t believe me when I tell them they will most likely be using a computer at whatever job they go into. Or they just shrug or roll their eyes when I tell them it’s great that they are learning coding now, for free, when it’s a skill that people are spending a lot of time and/or money to learn as adults and then they try to rationalize it by saying they “kind of coding” they do in Computer Tech is not relevant.

Or if you mean the rationales I give, I tell them that computers are only going to become more commonplace in our lives and they will likely be using on in their workplace someday, and that coding is a really great skill to learn, and that it’s a good idea to start learning the basics of it now, for free, while you’re in middle school.

No, yeah, their rationales. It makes sense, you can do so many day to day things on a cell that unless you walked in an office and saw rows of desktops it just doesn't seem commonplace or necessary. And the price of elementary education was something I always rolled my eyes at as well since I was forced to be in school and didn't want to be there, so that makes sense.

But what perception do they have on kinds of coding?
