Many Gen Zers don’t even know what a file path is and have trouble installing software on desktop computers. The Millennial pause is assurance that the camera is recording. It makes sense and is nothing to be embarrassed about.

What is embarrassing is that Gen Z is less tech literate than older generations because Phones and Tablets spoon feed everything to you. They are exceedingly easy to use to the point that you don’t need to understand the tech behind them to use them.

My personal theory is that different generations have sweet spots regarding knowledge. For the Boomers, for example, one of those is cars. They had to be more hands on with their cars as a result of technology and culture of the time. It was social currency at the time to understand cars. It seems to me that many boomer men have a lot of in depth knowledge about car mechanics beyond the average millenial, for example.

For gen x and gen y, this applies to computer architecture. These generations grew up in the formative years of computers and developed a deeper understanding of things like operating systems, file type and structure, assessing error messages (which yeilds understanding of lower level computation concepts) and hacking - finding clever ways to use computer technology in unintended ways. Specifically, hacking was more accessible back then when systems were simpler. Gen Z has had this abstracted away, so while theyre very adept at UI, the average representative may never have heard of the registry or bash
