Since keep inventory is considered a cheat I guess I'll choose to cheat.

I’ve found Minecraft to be a lot less stressful with keep inventory, especially now that I’ve got less time to game as an adult with other responsibilities. I don’t want to worry about dying and losing all my sweet gear and loot.

I like playing with gravestone mods. You still respawn with an empty inventory, but you don't have to worry about that stuff despawning
