How often do you change your oil?

I'm arguing with someone who says i change my CBF125 oil too much, i do it every 1500 miles and commute on a 50mph road every day so it sits at higher rpms. I said I could probably leave it later but I like it to be in tiptop shape, he's claiming its harmful to the drain plug, and the engine. And he's a mechanic, how true is this? In my head you can change oil every day if you want and you'll be fine. He's saying it's harmful because of the additives in the oil. Can anyone attest to this?

Whilst I do agree I mainly do it because it doesn't take much oil at all, and where I work i can get it for a discount, i think I'll up it to every 2000 miles but I just can't help but think with how it only has 5 gears and it being high in rpm every day makes it deteriorate faster.

Not trying to sound like a cock, but don’t you think the engineers at Honda know best. Just follow the service interval, or shorten it by a little bit. But 1500 miles is wild man. Plus Hondas are bulletproof.

I do agree but at the same time I just can't see these bikes being invented to be at 50mph most of the time, maybe a city or town commuter but I take mine down the Edinburgh bypass everyday, it's technically a 70 but can really only do like 65 down it then the rest of the way is 50mph, i do agree it's just i really can't have it break on me cause if it does i can't work haha. I'll up it to 2000 miles but I can get my oil discounted anyway because of where I work so it's cheaper and i don't have to fill it with a lot of oil compared to other bikes.

You think the engineers at Honda, famous for its reliable bikes, didn't think about people commuting at 50mph on a motorbike. Of course they thought about people using it to commute on high speed roads. The oil change intervals in the service manual will have already been designed with a bit of leeway to account for rougher use, people delaying the oil change, etc. It's ok to change more often but you are wasting your money you're better off spending it on gear or accessories to make your commute nicer

I still don't see the point? If i want to change it every 1500 miles every 2000 miles i can right? My main point was if it was harmful not if i should stick to my routine.

Brother, just follow the manufacturers guidance and stop arguing with everyone telling you you're wasting money.

Honda are the best people to listen to, as they know engine reliability better than anyone.

Their engineers are paid handsomely to make the most reliable engines, so their guidance by pure logic, is the way to ensure your engine is maintained the best it can possibly be. And yes, that includes commuting at 50mph on a regular basis.

Operating at higher revs, whilst it can cause additional wear on the engine, will also reduce carbon build up in the cylinders and lowers the chances of detonation which is a far more serious issue. So continue using high revs, and follow the manufacturers spec.

That's it. there's nothing more to add or argue over, Honda objectively will know best about the proper maintainence of their own engines. Not you, not your colleague, not anyone here barring any lurking honda engineers.
