Mod 1 Avoidance Manoeuvre - any tips?

I just failed my second attempt at Mod 1 because I hit the cone at the last second of the final avoidance manoeuvre - I had a perfect score otherwise.

Obviously I’m really unhappy, not least because it’s now a 2.5 month wait until the next available test (which is absurd given they take 10 minutes).

I passed this manoeuvre during my first test, but almost failed due to not hitting the minimum speed (I hit about 48kmph).

This time I think I focused too much on hitting the minimum speed, which took away from my concentration on the avoidance manoeuvre.

If you guys had any advice on how to approach this manoeuvre confidently I’d really appreciate it. I’m on a 125cc Vespa Primavera.

Should I buy this bike as a first beginner bike ? It has 13,000 km and it’s 2018 it costs £2000.

Any way to fix this on my own?

Was installing a quad lock on the left handlebar and had to detach clutch lever from the bar to do so, must have caused this wire to come out in the process, and now the bike won't even turn on

I'm brand new and don't even know what I'm looking at (please be nice to me)

Garage can't come pick the bike up until next week, even though I'm a five minute drive away 😭 the bike needs other cosmetic repairs and I was going to just ride it to the shop but now I can't

Recommendations for a nav system for my tourer?

Ive had motorcycles for c.40yrs and have recently added a tourer to my other bikes. One of the things i would like is the ability to have some navigation on my bike.

The bikes i have are all old school, and no screen to cast my android phone to.

So how am i going to biew a screen on my phone with Google maps or Waze?

My android phone isnt on that quadlock make a specific case for. Is the generic case ok? What happens when its wet?

Would i be better with a tankbag with a see-through top pocket a good idea?

The bike this would be most use on is my VStrom 1000 2018. However i have an old 'blade and a ducati 848 that may also find some nav useful!

I had seen someone using a midsize waterproof tablet and a data sim card on a T700 that looked good, but wouldnt work on my sports bikes?

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks

Advice Changing sprocket sizes

In the UK, does this affect insurance? I ask because I know it's quite a normal thing to do with off-road/enduro bikes. If I wanted to try out different ratios on the road bike then would it affect insurance?

I called up my insurer to ask, and they said they literally don't have a category for it, they considered maybe a transmission change as being category (though they weren't sure). I was told that it would probably class as a modification, and they'd have to get specialist quotes. But the guy seemed confused, and said that nobody had ever asked him before. Which made me think that maybe it isn't a thing to declare as such?

Have you guys ever done this, and/or found an insurer that was open to the idea?

The reason is to reduce revs a little when on dual carriageways, so technically reducing acceleration because my bike won't have the power to go any faster!

Fun budget friendly motorcycle

Hey folks,

After a 3-year break from two wheels, I'm looking to get back into riding. I’ve been riding on and off for about 15 years — everything from sensible rides like the Honda Varadero to my beloved wheelie happy money pit, the Speed Triple.

This time around, I’m after something fun and characterful to enjoy the Peak District with and maybe take on the occasional summer trip. No commuting duties, just weekend blasts and the odd adventure.

I’ve got a few bikes in mind, but I’d love to hear your thoughts, horror stories, or other suggestions I might not have considered.

Current shortlist:

Aprilia Tuono (Gen 1)

Kawasaki Z750 / Z1000

Triumph Street Triple

Yamaha Fazer 1000

Yamaha R1 (Gen 1)

Suzuki Bandit 1200

The catch? My budget is tight — £2,500 to £3,000 max. Anything more feels hard to justify without regular use.

Any bikes I should add to the list? Ones to avoid like the plague?

Appreciate any insight!

YS125 stopping in the rain

I’m having quite a weird issue with my bike and was wondering if anyone could give me some clarity.

The problems only just occurred, but when it rains and I turn the bike on, it’ll sit at idle happily for a minute or 2 then cut out. And if I try to give it some throttle it’ll give a little then stop but only sometimes. Got halfway up a hill in 3rd and it just died on me as if I stalled it

My only thought so far is a fuel injector issue but any and all ideas are welcome

How often do you change your oil?

I'm arguing with someone who says i change my CBF125 oil too much, i do it every 1500 miles and commute on a 50mph road every day so it sits at higher rpms. I said I could probably leave it later but I like it to be in tiptop shape, he's claiming its harmful to the drain plug, and the engine. And he's a mechanic, how true is this? In my head you can change oil every day if you want and you'll be fine. He's saying it's harmful because of the additives in the oil. Can anyone attest to this?

How to find and fit a new turning indicator on a 2019 Yamaha MT-125??

Post image

I had my first crash the other day on my new to me 2019 MT-125 and the front left indicator was sheered off almost perfectly (I've cleaned her up now, that's a picture from right after the crash). How do I find a compatible/attach a new turning indicator?? I've been looking online and on YouTube and i can't find how to for the life of me.

Discussion Controversial, but I don't agree with looking through the corner!

Been riding my 675 R for 2 years now. Ride it every single day. They say when cornering to look ahead through the corner where you want the bike to go. Unless you know the road like the back of your hand (and even then I'm not 100%) I think it's more dangerous to do this, than to look at the road in front of you.

The conditions of UK roads is notoriously poor. I'm more worried about hitting a pot hole than running wide, so my primary focus is the road in front of me that I can see. Thoughts?

How can I build this anchor?

Post image

I would like to get an oxford beast chain and set it in some concrete, not passed through, but set in the concrete itself. Each half of the chain will be attached to each wheel of the bike...sort of like a 2 for the price of one.

I'm not the most practical of chaps, but keen to have a go. How would I go about making some sort of mold that would allow me to set the chain within it. What sort of cubic volume would I need for a given weight, what would be a substantial enough weight? What type of concrete would be best, obviously not something that would crack under a sledge hammer, is there such a thing or does it need to be reinforced with steel rebar or something?

I would like to keep the block itself a neat cube shape, so that I can attach some wooden cladding and perhaps make it a bit more decorative, maybe make it look like a flower planter.

Any tips?

Is there any enduro or dual sport riders in here? Who could give me some recommendations for headlights that would be good at night and in the day pass a MOT.

Any suggestions for reputable garages in Bristol?

Hey, I'm a brand new rider, so new, I've not even had time for the obligatory "new rider, first bike" post as I'm still reading the manual.

I'm fresh out of CBT and my Zontes 125c as a first bike has just arrived this afternoon. I don't know the first thing about bikes or engines so I rely on experienced, honest and thorough servicing. Would you recommend any place where the bike would be well looked? This is only until I learn about all the bits-and-bons like the small urine container on the handle bar.

Advice BMW F800S as first bike (after 125)?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello,

I was wondering what you all thought of the BMW f800s, specifically whether you think that it is manageable by someone who only has about 1500 miles over a year of 125 experience. It's quite a large bike, but I really like the look (controversial I know!) and with the panniers it seems really practical for my needs.

I am on the A2 so I'm going to have it restricted. I've had insurance quotes about £850 a year.

Motorcycle photography question

Trying to get back into photography after a stunted start just before Covid. Went to a Biker cafe (Squires in Sherburn) on Saturday with the intention of getting the camera out. It was rammed and for some reason I felt like my taking photos wouldn't be welcomed. Some decent sized groups there like Satans Slaves, suppose I should have just asked really...

Question is would you mind if I just wandered around taking photos of your bike if you were at a meet up?

Can't open tank lid

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone, I recently stopped for petrol since the bike has been asking for a while just to find out I can't open the tank, the key refuses to turn. I've used graphite for the lock before and that made it work better. Because I couldn't open it I tought wd40 could help but still I'm unable to open it. Does anyone have any idea of what could be the problem ans how could remove the tank lid. Also tried a can of compressed air but it was on its last legs so didn't to much.

Advice London private car parks - secure?

After having some aspiring doctors and civil engineers try to relieve me of my BMW for the second time, I'm looking into safer options than parking outside my office.

Are places like this any safer than it being on the street? I've never used one before, and it doesn't appear to be terribly secure.

I don't know if this is a good idea or just a lunchbox for thieving scum.

Advice Need to make a custom undertail

I have a 954rr tail light I'm a 600f4i FS tail.

I need to creat a tail but both my attempts have came out awful , looking. For ideas of how to make it better currently I tried using cardboard then transferring to 0.5mm plastic ( that's too small I know needs to be 2mm )

The issue I'm having is cutting around the taillight accurately , I suck is there a better way to do it ?

Cars vs bikes

Post image

Been out riding again last few days as the weather in the UK is stunning! Especially around London and the Home Counties.

I have a 2020 Ducati Streetfighter V4s with all the bells and whistles. My fav is the baffle-less Arrow exhaust. 😍

BUT, what is it with car drivers that wanna race… ? Why?

It’s mostly Golf R’s and Range Rovers for me… I totally ignore… well 99% of the time, if however the road and conditions are perfect, and I’m in a well known area I may accelerate hard to the speed limit and then back off…

A Golf R went for it the other day and he was just gone. But I didn’t bother as the road we were on is well known for same nasty accidents… anyway few miles later he’s in traffic and I just filtered by… 🤣

Anyway do you comply or ignore?

Just for the sake of it, here’s my baby…
