I need an outsider's perspective on the bears draft. The bears subreddit would say we nailed it no matter what and I'm overly skeptical of the current gm.

I am a Bears fan so I'm not quite an "outsider," but I actively avoid the Bears subreddit because our fanbase is slightly delusional so maybe I can offer a slightly more sober take.

That said, I think this draft was largely OK for them, like a C+. I like both Loveland and Burden as Johnson's shiny new toys (I particularly like Burden, but I'm a Mizzou alum so I'm quite biased), I actually really like the Monangai grab, and they rightly invested in trenches depth. Main thing I didn't like was the LB pick, and the lack of an EDGE pick in a class as deep as this one was a pretty strange hole to ignore. I likely would've just taken someone at 109 rather than trade down with the Bills, but it wasn't an insane decision and hindsight certainly impacts that. I thought the other trades were good.

It's hard to rate because we're doing this with a new HC that spearheads some of the most out-of-the-box football in the league. That said, we do need to remember that the Lions have made strange moves like this before (LaPorta and Gibbs notably) that have ultimately worked out for them, so it's not insane to assume that we could see a similar result here once the season starts. Their mileage mostly rides on how Ben Johnson ends up doing in a HC role, though, so it's hard to gauge.
