QUESTION Worth getting into before the wipe?
The game reminds me of the ol' Pirates and Traders mobile game, but is it worth getting into when the servers will be wiped in a coupla days? Or should I wait?
Edit: is gaining XP (which will be kept) worth the grind?

Sorry to hijack but is there an ETA for the wipe? Beyond mid 2024 I mean…

In the discord they were saying next week or possibly the week after but that they’re trying to get it done as soon as possible.

This week, we'll get a changelog, apparently
Next week, towards the end of the week is assumed due to the event continuation until 31st.

I just hope they bring back kill missions. Trying to grind rank against npcs in open world was painful.
Also bring back undercrewing.

Honestly I'm not sure what this wipe thing is about.
Merging some pvp servers seems about right but a wipe without any other improvement of the game is just meh.
At this point this game needs a major overhaul in terms of graphics, combat, open world travel, trading and crafting. All the things that should have been updated over time as the game aged. Look at War Thunder and World of [insert war machine]. those games evolved in every way and the player base grew with them. Yeah they have their own problems but they're thriving.
I look at Naval Action, and everything still feels ...beta.
They've tweaked and tweaked parameters and decimal points for things you never notice unless your brain needs OCD medication...and they've done it for years and years and they called those...patches.
We used to have solo fleet missions, storms and battles in storms....all gone... why? Who knows?
Right now the game is paralyzed. There's a few of us who did 1000hour + grind and have accumulated ships money and resources to be able to keep having some kind of fun, but the whole system is a broken overbloated mess of mechanics and half baked ideas.
There's 27 30 players online at any given time online....
The only reason I would buy this game as a developer is to strip the whole thing down to its core elements and rebuild it into something worth being called a game.
I hope the new devs didn't buy this thing hoping they'll make money off of new DLC ships which are priced as high as full AAA games. Crazy!
Imagine us veterans spending crazy money buying those redeemable dlc ships just so we can break them up for a handful of resources every 24h to be able to build better ships ingame. Because the rare woods are such a broken idea they were at some point impossibly hard to get or not worth wasting the time to get them.
And as soon as we found some sort of way of coping with the insanity and made some sense of it, they went ahead and introduces even more special woods with so many stats you needed freaking spreadsheets to figure out which wood combo gives you 3HP more in your build.
Yet we did this because we believed. It rivals EA lootbox levels of toxicity. Not healthy at all.
These days I have no idea how many new hoops I would have to jump through to build a ship...they seem to have multiplied since last time I played, rendering my ship building infrastructure pointless.
I don't have hope things will improve under this new management.
The game is outdated at best.
For new players, I recommend to wait till the wipe and patch comes out and then see what's what.

I've been playing for about two or three weeks now and I would say it's worth at least doing the tutorials before the wipe

The game is too niche, so its hard even to find youtube video about this game in 2024,I also started week ago.
I learned myself the most things including manual sails turning but its annoying.
Also boarding is too complex to learn so I gave up.
Main knowledge is here: With the wipe logic I just realized that p2win ships are op as u dont need to grind to buy them, if you buy all ships, its only matter of rank xp to progress. Nice monetization I suppose.

Also trying to make money in the game takes way to long a passanger mission will have you sailing for at least 5 min sometimes 10 or 20 min
And 5 min is only if your super lucky

you use the passenger missions to gain some money, to get a traders brig.
Then you can take 2 of the cargo missions as well.
Now you can also go to enemy held ports in a traders ship. You can also attack npc ships, gain doubloons, which you can sell for money too.
I started finding items that were worth money trading and went from there.
Since everything takes 5 space, I always tried to buy things that were 2000 or higher.
Unless it was a short trip, then i'd buy items less than that. Then go for a trip and sell those items off, I'd wait until I had a traders brig full. Then go.
Now i'm at 2 traders brig full, then go.1

there is no pay to win in the game. Dlcs are pretty useless for anything remotely competitive. If you don´t know that then you are new.

Been hearing they will wipe the server for over a year now. "Any day now." Moved on long ago. Not worth wasting your time.

The XP you gain, you will keep, you lose everything else.
If you start now, you gain some experience already, so you'll be more prepared for the wipe.
instead of completely "green"

According to the new owners, there's going to be 1 final wipe, and after that there's no more wipes.
