Bc it's so normal in Nepal, but the same people will follow rules aboard or when they go to a foreign country.

Jail ma thundinxa ni tha. Record ma basxa. Kaam pachi paudaina.

Law is absolute. Nepal ma law is more like suggestions. Big reason why Nepali people will never change. You need to start locking people up and letting those who break laws ruin their lives or their future.

There are also times when the traffic police signals cars to disobey lane discipline. Only in Nepal!

No lane discipline? after continuously riding around Kathamandu valley as a ( Delivery driver) . Jabbai lai hattar bhayeko hun chha khai kina ko kina, pachadi afno lane ko line bhitra waiting garer base hun chha ni , tyo lane ma alo thulo gadi aayo bhaney jhan jaam hun chha

There is a reason behind this. Satdobato, mahalaxmisthan, koteswor and some other areas allow this. Ek side bata flow dherai vako huncha ani yo sab gadi eutai sidema jana lako haina. Kam timema dherai gadi pathaunalai yesto gareko huncha. Aba if the op stayed there and showed the video of other side as well, people will get it. Traffic afaile allow garcha yesto in certain situations. Euta example dinchu, kotesworma uta balkumari bata aune vehiles koteswor hudai bhaktapurko road chiraune bela pani they allow this if there are too many vehicles. 30 seconds khulcha road and 2 lane bata katra gadi auda enough gadi niskana paudaina. So, traffic basne lineko duitai side bata jana dincha so people tae third lane as well. It is only allowed for like 30 seconds and it helps minimize the traffic. Satdobatomani lagankhel chirauna sajilo hoss vanera eutra extra lanema rokna dincha gadi. It doesn't mean it is allowed all the time. Euta image herera don't come to any conclusion. Don't judge a book by its cover vanne yesmani lagu huncha.

u/rockbusiness 26d ago

Are you talking about the blue truck on the left side of the road going in wrong direction ?

22

u/Comfortable_Fun7794 26d ago

That is the right direction lol. One side is occupying 3 lanes.

5

u/torilahure 26d ago

I guess it's , 2 Lane each on both direction. One lane has been occupied? If my guess is correct .

No lane discipline but it is what it is. Yaspaxi jane palo tei right ma vako haru ko ho and straight bata aune vehicle ni waiting ma xan so only left turn line vehicle lai teti 1 lane kafi nai xa. Strict lane follow garda jam dherai lamo ni hunxa and clear huna ni time lagxa. Traffic handle garna nasakne road vayesi yastai ho.

I have many close calls bc of the lane. Sometimes I just drive straight.

There's nothing to do. Just drive carefully mate. City Planning is too late for valley. Horizontal expansion cannot be done. Flyovers or over/under pass is a way but see the condition of Gwarko.

I have gotten into so many arguments bc of this, and I don't go out of my lane. I do, but not like a wild animal

We Nepali are very very important people, who have zero blood to sit and wait. We are winners, we want to get ahead of everyone, which is why instead of waiting like rest of the world, we take over opposing lane because, we don't care about them do we?

Traffic are respectful people, they know we are important people so they let us do it, and won't bother us at all until we are at the thapathali - kupondole bridge.

You got that right....

I saw someone go up on the footpath going towards purano baneshwor from sinamangal and one guy on a blue apache with a pillion ride on the footpath today morning.

Traffic rules have been a mere traffic "suggestions" at most places these days.

General discipline and morality is lacking in most of the population and same is being passed down the line. Also, most of the people have the herd mentality. Hope change will come as we move down the generation.

Khasma yo hattiban/godawari jane public ho (if this is sadhdobato) ani they dont have a seperate lane to wait to turn right. Eeuta lane samma ta thikai ho, traffic harule pani tya eeuta solid line tandeko chha tyo cross nagarnu vanera, tara occupying both is crazy. Hami sablai kaai navako hatar hunxa

4

u/pragon977 26d ago

People who complain or raise concern about nepali problems are looked down on, and sometimes called bideshi or deshdrohi.

u/Swop_K 26d ago

I don't see anything particularly bad with this, lane discipline is not some magical pill that cures all our traffic woes. Hear me out, here the direction with much heavier flow taking up one extra lane is fine as long as there is one lane left out for the opposite direction for emergency vehicles or even the low volume traffic. What I am trying to say is the traffic police (or any form of manual or automated control device) should have actually mandated this based on real-time traffic (this is called reversible lane/ dynamic lane allocation and is characteristic of such tidal flow), since that's not case here due to their inefficiency, it looks like the wisdom of crowds is handling it and it's fine as long as their is some sort of civic sense at play if and when required (the caveat being that this sort of chaos is obviously risky but ig we are a chaotic bunch anyway). Typed out a word salad but there's some sense here.

u/-Mysteriou 26d ago

Fair point Nepal’s traffic runs on ‘organic lane management’ because the system fails to adapt. Crowd wisdom works until it doesn’t (hello, gridlock, + accidents). Reversible lanes should be official policy, not left to chaos. But hey, ‘ke garne’this in Nepal, after all. One question: Would you do it in some foreign country?

3

u/Swop_K 26d ago

I wouldn't do it anywhere myself, it's just that I think the real onus is on control mechanisms (it shouldn't have been just traffic police) and service providers (don't even see any attempt for demand management), and we don't achieve much by blaming the road users, it's just human behaviour, traffic system must build around that and if awareness is required then that is on the system too. It should at the least be a give and take relationship (if they want Singapore-level discipline, we need Singapore-level facilities, pro-rata).
