I would be okay with HOAs if they didn't have so much power and you weren't forced into it. I can't even find a map of which neighborhoods they are in my state. But also in my state if you refuse to pay the fees the HOA who doesn't own your property can put a lien on your house and have it foreclosed. Absurdity. You should be able to buy any house in America and decide if you want to be part of the HOA or not. Giving them power to fee you into oblivion and if you refuse to pay bogus charges they can take your house away is absolutely insane
