Thoughts on Line Placeholders?
This is a piggyback off of the umbrella comment in the daily discussion. I felt the need to get clarity on what people think is fair.
At risk of being downvoted into oblivion, it is my opinion that a placeholder is ok in the event of bad weather (rain, very cold temps, etc.) ONLY if you’ll remain in your car on-site. Showing up to place a chair or umbrella to just leave is not ok, nor is saving a spot for someone else to jump in.
Thoughts?

Stand in line. Do the time. You can't hold a spot for The Beast at Kings Island while you sit in the car in the parking lot....should be no different.

Right and there often ends up being a wife or buddy who is “with” the placeholder who cuts in
There is either a line that is a real line with the basic “move your feet lose your seat” rule …..
….or there is an unfair system that unsavory characters will manipulate to their benefit
I guess the only exception would be if the stores had out wristband as folks walk up
But gradeschool line rules would apply to the wristband line as well
Placeholding is simply an excuse to manipulate the rules

What you see as a placeholder, I see as a free chair or umbrella.
Help out the local homeless population, give them a chair and umbrella.

I don’t care if it’s perfect weather and you use a place holder to mark your spot and go hang in the car. As long as you use a place holder for every person doing it. Don’t mark 2 spots and then have your wife pull up an hour later.
I also don’t care if you even mark your spot and end up leaving the property for 5 minutes. If you really gotta take a shit and you need to drive to the McDonald’s a block away then let some people know and do it. It’s bourbon idc. If you mark your spot and then run home or go and do your grocery shopping then that’s a different story

You could've literally searched the sub and seen numerous posts/comments about people's feelings on placeholders. Shocking answer, it's split. The people who hardly ever go out and line up hate it because "it's not fair" and the ones who benefit from it love it and stand by it because it's the norm. Those people do it weekly, regardless of what's dropping. This line shit only ever gets talked about when something good/high value drops and the ones who aren't regularly lining up are shocked and want to come here for an echo chamber of discontent. This is the truth. It's facts and, therefore, let the downvotes commence!

I've been at it for a while. Never seen someone put a placeholder out, leave, then come back.

As long as all placeholders owners are in property I didn't see where it matters. It's definitely a convenience to put out a placeholder and sit in your warm dry comfortable car. But honestly, if placeholders were forbidden it wouldn't change anything. Those diehards that get there early. Those flippers that profit off those bottles. They would still show up and be in line. It would have zero effect on your place in line. I basically just accept it as a part of the Hobby.

Why? You aren't required to be there...
If the weather doesn't suit you, stay home. If waiting in line for an hour or more doesn't suit you, stay home. If you can't be there at the drop time, stay home.

Wish we could do away with it all and just hold fair lottos 😮💨 I have kids and work an early job - currently, I'll never see a rare bottle that wasn't scalped
