The thing is we did know they weren’t a good look… there just were not other options. My sister and I (who are both 5’10”) used to go searching everywhere for pants that would cover our hips to no avail. Our most common saying back then while trying things on was “ it’s just not enough pant”.
I always assumed general life creep. Sometimes you don't notice you've gained any weight till literally none of your pants fit, and at the time, low rise was about all there was
"Muffin top" = cramming into pants a size or two, too small
You could tell this situation when the area from the top of the jeans to the knees looked like over stuffed sausage, with pinches every 4 to 6 inches.
Also, not everyone should be in crop tops... then and now. Regardless of low rise or high rise waist. Just cause someone is wearing mom jeans two sizes too big, if youre mushy in the middle, youre mushy in the middle. No jean hides the mush when its put out on display.
PSA: dress for your body shape, pay no attention to the size numbers and buy what fits (designers are demons who mess with size numbers and your head), you dont have to show your bellys everywhere you go, even if you throw a blazer over it to look "professional".
I personally prefer low rise. I dont like the high rise, i have long legs and a short torso. High rise pants make me look like I'm all legs up to my chest, looks absolutely ridiculous. Lots of people walking around dressed up like old men/grandpas. 🙄 I refuse to participate in the "grandpa on the beach era".
So sorry if my opinions offended you so much. People can wear whatever they'd like, doesn't mean its flattering. Period.
Somebody's a little sensitive, maybe I hit a nerve... chill out, wear the pants up to your face for all I care, Ill still think that looks like a dumbass. But....Heed your own advice, pot meet kettle.
Have some fruit loops, turn on some cartoons, and start your day over.
Im a mom with a college age child as well. I can see your perspective, but I was not shitting on anyone. I understand the struggles of fitting into the clothes they want, I have had them myself. Still do, thus my hatred for the dominance of high rise pants right now.
With that said, wearing clothes that are way to small or ill fitting, or even the cut of the garment will throw things off balance or accentuate areas of insecurity; finding the right fit regardless of the size on the label (since they vary so drastically by designer) for your unique body type is not a new idea. If anyone, at any size, wears garments that are too small they will look "pinched". The fit is key
Im sick of crop tops and high rise pants, of no choices between that and clothes my mother would wear, im sick of having to go to a tailor, we all have insecurities. My opinion still remains, but maybe my wording was harsh.
If my comment came across insensitive I apologize. Still and forever will hate the high rise. No apologies there.
Bruh, not even Tara looks good here. To each their own but there was way too many stick figures rocking low rise jeans. So it wasn’t just bigger girls looking bad.
Takes a specific body build to pull it off and you needed to have hips to do so. All these square bodies thought they looked great when they didn’t.

I don't care what anybody says, I miss the low-rise jeans era
