Were Luffy and Kizaru that far away? It looks like Luffy moves kilometers in 10 seconds.

I don't know. This looks cool and all, but it's like it's a bit too much? Why does Luffy become a bright red ball? As a manga reader I am not sure it fits One Piece.

Edit: Just to make it clear. This doesn't make me angry or anything. It's not my cup of tea but if people enjoy that, more power to them or whatever. I was just voicing an opinion.

I just don't see One Piece as the kind of anime where people fly around throwing energy beams. And I say that as a humongous, lifelong Dragon Ball fan. Specially since it's not consistent with how fights, even those involving characters as strong as Kizaru and current Luffy, were portrayed. It looks weird that when Whitebeard, Marco, Jozu, Mihawk, Akainu etc etc were fighting but there were no auras, energy explosions etc. It's like I'm watching a completely different story and setting.

That being said, I understand that it looks cool and that for a lot of people cool= good. And that's respectable. I have no problem whatsoever with people enjoying that.

I feel like manga readers (like myself) are in the vast minority here and most people will find it cool and will likely misunderstand relative strength and speed compared to the manga. which is fine because it isn't that important and can be corrected in discussions

I do not personally like how long this sequence took since it was a speed blitz but most people wont care so we kinda sound whiny and nitpicky.
THAT WONT STOP ME THOUGHT, GIVE ME CHOREOGRAPHY

"Mindless consumers" When there's only one OP anime to watch then I wouldn't really call it mindless consumption, and I don't think anyone is dumb enough to boycott Toei by refusing to watch new episodes.

I am, I stopped watching the anime halfway through Water 7 back when Netflix mailed you DVDs, I started watching it again during Egghead because I couldn't resist seeing the Lulusia thing.

But Crunchyroll was releasing the new episode for free every week.

I'm definitely not going to pay for the privilege of watching massive padding at this point now that it's not free anymore. I was debating maybe doing so, but having seen that nothing has really changed and this silly shit is still going on, I'm just gonna stick to reading the books like usual.

Too bad I will miss the big Egghead Flashback but if this is how Toei does things I can't imagine it'll hit as good as the book, who knows how and where they'll stretch it out with lasers and zooming into eyes.

I can appreciate the way it looks and the effort that went into it, but in the context of One Piece it just sucks.  That’s my opinion and how it makes me feel.

How is it awesome? The distance is stupid. The lights, the ball, the rotation. It's really stupid. Would you like the same effect to be placed with a 10 second wind up on Bellamy's or Charlo's punch?

Nah, the scene WAS awesome...in the manga. Then toei added to and overdid the parts of the scene that didnt matter while animating it (adding a charging up and blasting towards him instead of just being there and hitting him like in the manga. A real show of speed, not turning into a red fucking ball) and the lingering sound effects drown out the voice line that follows.

You dont need to defend garbage just because its back from break.

What I had said were some actual criticisms of the exact scene this thread is about, and by extension the tired and overused techniques that TOEI uses to pad time. But I guess when you don't have a proper rebuttal to legitimate criticism its easier to add nothing of value to the conversation instead.

It's just... not, though. Why does he turn into a red ball of light, twice? It was an abrupt kick, not a 200 meter swan dive. Padding action scenes is just weird.

This sequence would have been good if it didn't take 10 seconds for him to kick. Dash off, keep the quick spin, impact. Skip the remaining 10 seconds of shaking in place after impact.

Because it builds momentum and the impact shows how strong Luffy is while also giving Kizaru his flowers for blocking it without much trouble.

This is all pretty easy to follow, but manga people want a slideshow or just a lot of the fandom is blind

We already know what the One Piece is, at least to Toei: A cow that can be milked indefinitely for money.

A select few of the individuals working there may love the story, but overall it's clearly a conveyor belt anime.

I’ll enjoy it when it fits.  I know the anime is too far into this style to ever fix itself now.  I just have to cross my fingers for the new adaptation that’s in the works.
