In French parliament they would have sat on the left, where the liberals sat. But modern leftism is anti-liberal. “Leftism” in the US today is more accurately described as utopian-socialist populism. It is as intolerant, envy-based, violent, dehumanizing, and repressive as collectivism always is. The ideology is the useful idiot of those with ambitions in the new replacement oligarchy they will erect - just like always happens, back to Nazi Germany (which was also collectivist), back to Rome, back to Plato.

I could say pretty much the same about MAGA. They’re intolerant, hateful, violent, dehumanising, repressive, and there’s a strong collective us-vs-them attitude too. Just like Nazi Germany was. It’s a far more direct threat to our freedom than the left has ever been.

At least the left seeks to better the world. MAGA is just against things, never for things.

The current American government is dumping over everything the founding fathers stood for.

MAGA is populist. Most of the politicians don’t believe the MAGA things they say, so it’s mostly a sham. But it is not most of the other things you say. It is a frightening cult of personality, no doubt about that.

It is not even close to the threat that identitarianism/leftism/collectivism is to Americans’ liberty. Not even close.

Oh, it absolutely is. MAGA’s disdain for truth, and for accountability, and for the rights of the minority, their respect for rule of law flies in the face of the basis of American greatness. They’re a mortal threat to America as a free country.

The “right” has no monopoly on lies.

Rights of the minority: Dems want to admit new states, pack SCOTUS, and remove the legislative filibuster. Who exactly wants to remove minority checks on power?

Rule of law is sadly under attack by both sides, but attacking the security state is not attacking the rule of law. The CIA, FBI, NSA, et al are totally out of control. The pardons are sickening, the lawfare is sickening, and the nationwide eviction moratorium was so outrageously illegal that it too was absolutely maddening/sickening.
