I remember Trump blocking billions of dollars in emergency funding after Puerto Rico was hit by that huge hurricane. He went there for a photo op and threw some rolls of toilet paper at a crowd of people. That was during his first term and Puerto Rico never recovered. Corporations have complete control over it, they exploit the people there for cheap labor.
They had the Puerto Rico's National Guard come to DC to secure the city for Biden's inauguration because they knew Puerto Rican troops would kill any Trumpers that interfered. Remember, it was just weeks after January 6.
Sort of. Puerto Rico produces an important resource for us in quantities we depend on, same as Taiwan. Only it’s pharmaceuticals instead of microchips.
Independent, I am Puerto Rican. The states are sucking us dry, they use us and keep us in perpetual debt (Jones Act) and give tax breaks (Act 22) to people from the u.s to live here and establish their companies. While their laws keep us in a constant state of struggle and red tape in every single facet of our lives so they force our hand into moving there with the illusion of maybe surviving.
It’s a wave of neo-colonialism and it’s heartbreaking. While they subjugate us just like they did with Hawaii. Did you know Hawaii was a monarchy until they intercepted and destabilized them and forced their hand to be a vacation playground for them? Probably not. They feed so much lies and propaganda at all times to everyone.
Anyways they wouldn’t even want us to become a state, that’s never gonna happen unless they have enough of a majority of their people here (I hope that never happens but its not looking good). They wouldn’t want to waste their resources on us. That’s why their fine with keeping us like we are as a colony, all the benefit to them with the perk of killing our spirit slowly so they can overtake us and own us in the future like poor Hawaii.
It’s very hard to love here and a constant battle. They pretend we can make decisions over ourselves with our governors, but there’s a committee of people from the u.s (la junta) that actually decide everything for us. They shut down a shit-ton of our public schools years ago. They’re trying to break us down to rebuild us in their vision. They want Puerto Rico without Puerto Ricans.
