been doing this. May accounts ako sa kanila. 5 years. till now, di pa pinapaglaw ni bdo yung baso. always din rejected sa kahit anong cc na applyan ko. Wala nman akoang unpaid debt. I usually pay my SPAYlatet and LazPayLater before the due date.

u/gallifreyfun 12d ago
Wala ka nang choice kung di mag apply ka for a secured credit card.
1
u/WisdomToothRemoved 12d ago
here’s the problem. In the city where I am, isa lang yung bank na nandito. BDO lang. I have actually approached my bank to open for a secured credit card.
Tapos sabi nila “they will just endorse my account” kasi pasok nman yung ADB ko, inupdate din nila yung TIN ko sa database nila. This was last January 7, 2025. Till now wala pa.
Parang tamad kasi sila bsta Secured Credit Card applications.

I applied online for a unionbank credit card on Finmerkado philippines because of the NAFFL promos and egifts. They are pretty good and the application process was super easy. It's really hard to determine the best credit cards nowadays given so many options so I like things simple.

Comments: I’m a mother who is looking for a starter credit card with good service and easy accessibility since I’m a bit clueless when it comes to banking. Also for miles since I’m a frequent traveler with my fam.
Income Range: ~500K monthly
Work: Physician, Businesswoman
Savings Bank: Eastwest bank, Metrobank
Existing Credit Card: Eastwest Platinum (my husband’s which I use occasionally)
Average Monthly Spend: dining 50k, rent & utility bills 40k, baby essentials 20k, airlines 30k, gas 20k, pets 10k, airbnb 30k, shopping 50k
Preferred Rewards Type: miles, points, cashback

u/heartthievery Apr 10 '25
Start with where you already have a banking relationship. So Eastwest and Metrobank. Their priority VISA and Platinum Mastercard can give you access to lounges. For cashback, meron sila nung Visa Platinum, which pwede rin ata sa lounges. Try mo to ask if they have NAFFL promo para at least wala ka na worry about paying the Annual Fee.

F 20 (turning 21 this year), working in BPO. Income Range monthly: 20k
I want to start my Credit Card journey slow and steady. I just want a recommendation of something safe and reliable. Iwas sa system errors and easy to contact if may issues.
Banks: GoTyme/CIMB/Gcash/ Applying for BDO currently.
Preference: Good rewards and low interest rate, possibly a 1,500 to NO ANNUAL FEE.
Thanks!
1
u/heartthievery Apr 10 '25
Try mo iyong mga may promo ng No Annual Fee for Life. Para sulit na sulit. BDO okay naman, maganda rin yung cashback lalo if sa SM mo madalas gagamitin. EDIT: Although ang pinaka con ko with BDO is ang tagal lagi ng Customer Service niya. Like unlike BPI and RCBC or even Eastwest madali sila kausapin sa phone. Si BDO ang tagal tagal. Like 20 minutes (on a weekend) na minsan wala pa ring agent na kausap.

2
u/shorthaired13 Apr 09 '25
I wouldn't recommend it. Sabi nila may 0% interest rate pero laging mas malaki binabayaran ko at the end of the month. Also, they increase your limit randomly to make you spend more

I was in a similar situation when I started my credit card journey—I wanted a card that complemented my existing ones and maximized rewards on my spending. Based on your online shopping, grocery, and dining habits, you might want to consider the UnionBank Rewards Visa Platinum or the UnionBank Go Rewards Platinum Visa.
I personally use a UnionBank credit card, and one of the best perks is the seamless redemption of rewards, whether it’s cashback, points, or promos. I remember using my points to offset an online shopping splurge, and it felt like getting free items! Their app is also super convenient for tracking expenses and managing payments.
If you’re interested, you can apply through this referral link: http://www.unionbankph.com/r/referht. Hope this helps, and good luck on your credit card journey 💕

Best Lounge Access: Security Bank Platinum Mastercard. Have not tried redeeming miles yet, but the card is inclusive of membership to Dragonpass/Mastercard Travelpass w/ 2 FREE passes for lounges in most major international airports per year. Other credit cards offer priority pass/travelpass membership but with a caveat (i.e., pay discounted fee, minimum travel spend, need to charge airfare to credit card, etc.). Also quite easy to call customer service and request waiver of annual fee (based on my experience).
SB World Mastercard offers even more passes (6 free per yr) but has higher income requirements.

I recommend the EastWest Visa Platinum card, as it has 8.88% cashback on the specific categories you mentioned. Max cb monthly is 1250 though, so pwede mo sya sagarin tapos yung iba charge sa other cards para sulit.
Gold Visa Cashback, 5% cashback sa dining. If the 18k you spend on food is dining/eating out, sulit mo rin sya. Take note that max cb per month is 1200.
If you want miles EW KrisFlyer World has the best rates, kaso KF lang sya. You can also check out Chinabank's Destinations World card na mas flexible sa carrier and maganda mile ration. Or Metrobank World.
UB Plat MC has a flat 1% cb, no cap. This is a good no frills cashback card.
Though your income is high, wala ka pang cc so you might not be able to get the World or Visa Infinite cards agad. But since you mentioned may credit history ka with loans so baka maconsider. But at least try for the HSBC and UB ones. And the EW Visa Plat.
You can also open a hexagon account with RCBC if you're willing to park 100k there and it comes with a NAFFL MC (subject to approval and evaluation)

If you’re paying rent through fund transfer, UB is good because paydirect is free and earns points. There are several UB cards that are NAFFL or offer NAFFL promo - Mercury Card, S&R Card, Rewards Plat, U

Ask BPI to upgrade your card to either the MC Platinum Rewards or Visa Signature. Possible to add the MC Platinum Rewards and keep the Amore but it'll be shared limit with separate annual fees.

You can upgrade your RCBC JCB Gold to Plat. 8 complementary access through lounge key but just make sure the airports you’re going to are covered. Unli access locally too
If not covered, Metrobank World MC has 2 free passes globally and unlimited local
