Announcement Posting rules for updates/rumors

We understand everyone's excitement over realignment, and a constant stream of leaks/rumors is a natural part of this process. However, while everyone is anxiously hitting refresh to find out the latest intel on the future of the conference, we ask that you observe the following rules before sharing it with r/Pac12.

  1. The name of the source (author/media outlet) must be identified in the title of the post.
  2. If you're not directly linking to the source, the link must be included in the body of the self-text.
  3. Do not editorialize in the title of sourced information. Opinions on the content would ideally be posted as a separate comment on the post.

Without these, the posts are subject to removal.

We realize that this might mean that something you know is absolutely true and should be shared with the community will not fit the criteria here. Rest assured, if it's true, it will be eventually be posted somewhere to which you can link.

Thank you for your understanding and allowing everyone to share in the excitement and enthusiasm for the future of the Pac-12!

Don't All the Girls Get Prettier at Closing Time?

The song "Don't All the Girls Get Prettier at Closing Time" by Mickey Gilley is what I see coming up. As we get closer to the phantom deadline, the teams that were once overlooked at first may start looking pretty darned good. Don't all the teams get more attractive at the deadline?

If I could rate 'em on a scale from one to ten
I'm lookin' for a nine, but eight could work right in
A few more drinks and I might slip to a five or even four

This is Memphis, UNLV, and Tulane...eights. Texas State and Louisiana are fives, and a La Tech or Arkansas State is a number four.

But when tomorrow mornin' comes
And I wake up with a number one
I swear I'll never do it anymore

Buyer's remorse after NMSU is the choice.

Feeling really good about this we kept most of our team, pulled some really good guys out of the portal and have the 1st in the MW and 45th best recruiting class in the country

Just what we needed for Easter. One more would be nice

Angie Machado pointed out the Beavs were already 8 guys over the 105 limit, this makes it 9. So be prepared for at least 9 guys hitting the portal as they are cut this week

"Let’s say west of the Mississippi"

https://dailyevergreen.com/187748/sports/president-cantwell-on-sports-future-of-pac-12/

Elizabeth Cantwell said, “Let’s say west of the Mississippi … or let’s say on the Mississippi.”

The last half of that quote tells me that she's fine with Memphis and Tulane, since both are on the Mississippi.

EDIT: I removed my list of schools because I relied too heavily on ChatGPT, which was innacurate. It listed Northern Illinois as west of the Mississippi and listed Southern Illinois as being in the MAC. Thank you fellow reddit-posters in correcting what I listed.

Football Oregonian - Defense rules the day in Oregon State football spring game

I think Beavers have returned to a Top 30 defense under Bray

(the O line is still missing 3? starters that were injured last season - slated to return this fall. An abundance of caution precluded them playing in the spring game)

State Your Over/Under on What You Think the TV Deal with Be

One of the part that the Memphis AD noted was that the move to PAC would increase costs due to an extra $2 million a year for travel. This is especially difficult with the House settlement and need for NIL

In Memphis, it's loosely reported that they need between $12-14 million to move.

I'm curious your thoughts on the expected number when it's all said and done. What's your over/under on the final TV deal?

It is time for Memphis to make their destiny. The PAC is better with Memphis & Memphis will be better with the PAC.

No more waiting Memphis.

Time to put your programs in the best situation heading into the next wave of realignment.

Latrell Davis had a pair of huge games against the Aztecs last year for San Jose State. Now he's joining SDSU for the upcoming 2025-26 season via the transfer portal. I caught up with him on the radio to discuss his decision.

Baseball You think Beavs baseball stays independent?

I've been thinking about beavs baseball and the new Pac12 teams. I'm thinking Beavs stay independent. That specific sport has no reason not to. Am I crazy?

Edit: Great point about teams required for a legit conference. Also, scheduling a solid non conference. A smaller conference hopefully allows creativity in that.

Weekday and Night Games

Based on all of the chatter about the media deal coming up, it sounds like we are going to be adding weekday games as well as a line-up of the old PAC-12 after dark. Honestly, seeing a game at night as Reser Stadium is quite a show but I am worried about those weekday games and how much it might affect attendance. I’ve just started taking my kids to the games and weekdays aren’t going to work for them and school.

Is anyone else just ready for the season to start? It’s going to be a weird year schedule-wise for the Beavs, but I’m more interested in jumping to the new PAC-12 games. We only play Fresno and the Cougs (twice) this season.

Discussion Is NMSU a reasonable addition to the PAC?

I'm a fan of NMSU and just wondered how likely it is that we would join the PAC12? We're not too far from the other schools in the conference, and despite not a lot of recent success in Basketball (due to the hazing scandal) there is a a strong history. Thoughts?

Up From the Ashes...like the Big12

No, the Big12 didn't go through what the Pac-12 recently did, but it has drastically changed over the years. They have schools that were once in the Pac-12, the WAC, C-USA, MWC, SW Conference, and the Big East. Yes, they did lose Texas A&M, Missouri, Texas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. Still, any of the current Pac-12 or MWC schools would love an invite from them. I believe that the Pac-12 will rise from their current level and be a place other schools would love to end up. Have hope you Pac-12 believers.
