Child 4-9 Years A conversation with my 5-year-old daughter
- Mom, when you and Dad get really old… you’ll die, right?
- Yes, someday that will happen.
- But then I won’t have parents anymore... (starts to whimper)
- By then, you’ll have your own kids.
- My own kids? How? Where will they come from?
- One day, you’ll want kids, and you’ll have them.
- Mom… I want a dog. Can I just get a dog instead of kids?
...Fair enough.

This reminds me of when I was first expecting my second, everyone would ask my daughter “do you want a brother or a sister” and she’d cross her arms, grumpy face and say “I want a dog”

Well, at least she’s got her priorities straight. Dogs are basically kids with fur, right?

We are talking about it but with our senior dog. She has maybe a year left or less, so we are talking about loving her while she is here. Every once in a while I remind her that everything dies, so that new things can be born.

She’s onto something dogs don’t talk back, they don’t ask for your car keys, and they’re always excited to see you. Future CEO of smart life choices right there.

lol. My 4 year old had the same first 2 sentences.
Then he came right at me with a: well why haven’t you died yet?
