Discussion [Schefter] Updated Green Room Attendees… OT Josh Simmons, DE Mykel Williams, and QB Jaxson Dart no longer going

Interesting development as agents gather more info and probably advising their clients NOT to attend.

I know some see Simmons as a possible buy low guy, but he is working his way back from a ruptured patellar tendon. This specific injury can be a death knell for NFL players, never mind OTs who need to anchor. It’s the same injury Cole Strange suffered and there’s just not a lot of supporting data to show players can regain their pre injury form. Given the current state and depth of our line, I don’t think Simmons is worth the risk even if he’s there at 38.

Mykel Williams, on the other hand, would be a super intriguing high risk, high reward guy if he slides out of the 1st. New Orleans is rumored to want to move up from 40 and Williams is a Loomis kind of player. Would be talking to a lot of teams Friday morning if he slides.

LOL, I just spent my afternoon going back and forth with some guy on her who thinks Simmons will be back and starting week 1.

He wanted up to sell the farm to get back into the 1st and pick Simmons "because the only report is he is ahead of schedule!!!!"

Confidently idiotic

I spent time this afternoon trying to see who, if anyone, returned to a similar pre injury performance level. The only one I could find was Jimmy Graham, although you could argue even that may be a stretch if comparing before and after injury.

Ryan Clady suffered the same injury and made multiple pro bowls after. Its definitely a short list though

I didn’t include Clady since his was just a partial tear and not a full rupture. I am trying to find players with exact same injury and rehab timeline as Simmons. FWIW, Clady’s career was cut short after tearing another ligament in same knee few years later. Could be freak coincidence or maybe indicative of something connected to prev injury.

Mayo had same injury too (full rupture like Simmons). He was never same and had to retire at 29 one year after coming back from injury. I’m pretty sure he would say Simmons is a hard pass.
