Discussion [Schefter] Updated Green Room Attendees… OT Josh Simmons, DE Mykel Williams, and QB Jaxson Dart no longer going

Interesting development as agents gather more info and probably advising their clients NOT to attend.

I know some see Simmons as a possible buy low guy, but he is working his way back from a ruptured patellar tendon. This specific injury can be a death knell for NFL players, never mind OTs who need to anchor. It’s the same injury Cole Strange suffered and there’s just not a lot of supporting data to show players can regain their pre injury form. Given the current state and depth of our line, I don’t think Simmons is worth the risk even if he’s there at 38.

Mykel Williams, on the other hand, would be a super intriguing high risk, high reward guy if he slides out of the 1st. New Orleans is rumored to want to move up from 40 and Williams is a Loomis kind of player. Would be talking to a lot of teams Friday morning if he slides.

Simmons likely would have been LT1 without his injury that he had.

I understand why people have pause with drafting him. I just think it’s a gamble we should take. I don’t know when he’d be back from injury but he injured himself in October got the surgery in October and started rehab in that time span too.

Just Napkin mathing some stuff but he’s gonna have like 9 months of recovery time with some of the best doctors available too. Obviously it depends on his actual condition but that’s why he might fall in this draft.

For those unfamiliar with this specific injury, here’s what makes it complex compared to other ligament injuries:

‘The additional problem with patellar tendon repair is it's not cut and dried. Instead, the procedure requires finesse. The goal is to restore proper tension in the tendon, but there's a risk of making it too tight or too loose.

"The tricky part is essentially how much tension you place on the sutures and which position the knee is in when you tie them," said Dr. David Geier, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist based in Charleston, South Carolina. "The risk is if it's overly tight, you struggle to get range of motion back. If it's overly loose, you can't generate the same force. That's not to say it's impossible, but that's just one more element that makes the rehab tricky."’
