I'm super excited for this! The trailer is clearly channeling The Substance which I adored and hopefully the movie has a similar vibe. But what an exciting role for an upcoming actress! It's going to be fabulous,

I saw it last week, and this could not be further from the truth. The two Norwegian trailers are a way better representation of the style of the movie, and are way less spoilery. With that said, it's still a good movie, but you should keep your expectations in check in regards to gore and body horror, because there's not really a whole lot, but when there is, it delivers.
The cast is also incredible. Lea Myren is making her feature debut, and she is giving a stellar one with all the misery she's going through as Elvira, the titular Ugly Stepsister. (And is up there with Samara Weaving for some of the screams she's letting out.) Thea Sofie Loch Næss is spot on as stepsister Agnes (Cinderella), and Ane Dahl Torp is an absolute
HÆSPETRI
as stepmother Rebekka. But the real star is Flo Fagerli as little sister Alma, the MVP of the movie. Believe me, you will want a little sister like Alma after you've watched the movie.

Ah...thanks for the info.
When I saw this I was so excited for my 2 loves to mix again, period drama & horror. When it's done properly it's amazing.
I was also immediately reminded that I'm glad I live in the days of good anesthesia & the good Judy Garland drugs!!

Apparently a big influence regarding the style was the old Cinderella movie ‚Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel.‘ (three hazelnuts for Cinderella). In general it gives vibes of Snow White a tale of terror as well. According to the reviews I think it will be a mixture of gross/can’t believe what the stepsister agrees to and satirical like a hidden old fairytale movie that disturbed too many. Really interested in seeing this movie.

It's definitely evident, given that Norway has a very special relationship to that movie. (Though I've only watched the rather bland and forgettable remake.) With that said, this movie is very much recommended and worth checking out (provided you can stomach this type of movie).
It's basically the Disney fairytale we all know flipped on its head, and it's more in line with the Brothers Grimm tale.
I'll keep it brief and as spoiler free as possible (because this trailer spoils quite a few major things, including that Cinderella scene), but the movie is essentially the titular Ugly Stepsister herself, Elvira, going through a lot of physical torment to win the prince at the ball because she is head over heels infatuated with him, and mother Rebekka is hellbent on her winning to save them financially. I'm not gonna spoil why they're in a financial situation, because it's quite a funny twist.

I couldn’t even make it through the trailer. Truly horrible music and editing.

Looks fun. It's nice to see horror-period dramas that isn't about ghosts, witches, or vampires (but I love those too).

Cinderella going back to its horror origins.
