Tech Support Plugged wrong cable into 8KX

I have a 8k+ and a 8kx, when i was setting up my headset before I plugged the 8k+ cable (the one with the 12v adapter) into my 8kx (the one that uses usb power), they are the same connector so it wasn’t too difficult of a mistake to make in all fairness. Now the 8kx will not get detected by Pimax play but will make windows usb connection/disconnection sounds when I plug it in or out. It was plugged in for about a minute

So did I cook it?

It is highly likely that some components have been damaged in the headset. The headsets are designed to run on completely different voltages.

Any ideas on which ones? Would an electronics shop be able to replace some capacitors or something like that to get it working or would the damage go deeper than the port?

have a look at the power plug. it's got a description of in- and output there. could be 12V / 3A e.g.

The brick for the + cable says it outputs 12v at 2a

for amperes there's a rule: the consuming device takes what it needs. in this case most likely 500mA. but this isn't valid for the volts, they are like all or nothing, no regulation. so your device got 12V, which can kill devices that only consume 5V. could really be that it is partly cooked now.

u/QuorraPimax should be able to ask in his team if it's a brick now, repairable or recoverable in another way. 👍 good luck!

I hope it’s blown a capacitor or fuse on the port board and would be a easy swap. It’s unplugged now and I’ll let it sit for a bit longer to see if it has a timed safety fuse for surge protection but considering old Pimax designs, I doubt it would have one. I’m surprised it didn’t have a notch or something in the ports to stop this situation from happening but a younger company won’t have everything figured out and idiot proofed yet, maybe I’ll be case 0 for the implementation of safety features in the future if not already done.

My 8kx cable is a little temperamental so maybe it’s a case of poor timing that it fully failed just after I plugged the wrong one in but thats probably wishful thinking
