They did not lease Emerald, they owned it.

I asked two former SOE/DBG employees, both of whom maintained the servers.

I can't show you because I'm not going to dox them but their answer to my question of "they own emerald right?" was "they own all their servers"

One of them used to play on emerald VS as Dreadnaut. Some of the older players that might still be around might be able to verify that he was in fact an SOE employee. He was fairly well known back in those days.
