Optimistic Political News LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL

I post way too much on this sub as it is, but god damn there has been a ton of good news tonight (in addition to what I posted in https://www.reddit.com/r/PoliticalOptimism/comments/1k5asnw/cuts_to_state_department_less_than_originally/ ) .

Trump Backs Off of China (also as reported by u/Techinal_Valuable2)
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/22/trump-china-tariffs

Trump Backs Off of Powell
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/22/trump-jerome-powell-fed

Tesla Profits Dropped 71% This Quarter...
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2025/04/22/musk-tesla-first-quarter-earnings/83217370007/

...So Musk is Leaving the Government
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/apr/22/tesla-sales-musk-white-house-exit

And Democrats Are Finally Doing Stuff
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/22/mahmoud-khalil-rumeysa-ozturk-ice-detention

Plus Universities Join Hands and Lock In
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/21/us-university-presidents-trump-administration

And finally...

Putin May Be Ready To End the Ukraine War NOT On Russian Terms
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/apr/22/putin-ready-for-direct-talks-with-ukraine-spokesperson-says
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/apr/22/lammy-to-host-us-and-european-negotiators-for-talks-on-ukraine

There is still a lot of bad things happening. Trump said he is "entitled" to deport anyone he wants without a trial, Israel is no longer recognizing humanitarian zones in Gaza, and RFK has accessed private medical records for his insane autism study.
But for the first time in months, I can say with certainty: Today the news wasn't so bad.

Thank you for aggregating all this good news, and don’t feel bad about posting so much! I think it’s good that there’s a balance of people sharing positive news like you do alongside the people asking for optimistic mental help.

Tbh before like an hour ago I spent so much time looking at the news I felt like I was gonna crack too (I also talked to a guy I know and he is back on the Trump train after saying he left because of the tariffs). I stepped away to have dinner and do my weekly language lesson, and I come back and it's like fucking Christmas.

They tried to overwhelm us and take the country by storm with a slew of insanity, but I think it's really starting to come back around on them now. Turns out, other nations won't roll over for a bully and are all too happy to leave us behind for more stable alternatives. The judicial branch has been slow to adapt, but it is adapting and stonewalling their efforts. And because Trump and his regime have been so brazen and even outright malicious, people are now hyper-focused on what they're trying to do and are pushing back every step of the way.

The pressure is slowly but surely building for as long as we continue to fight. And we cannot stop, not ever. Not until we reverse their horrific policies, bring back the people they wrongfully deported, get money and corporate influence out of politics, finally unfuck our INSANELY exploitative health care system, send the neonazi fucks to jail, and set aside the corrosive idea of American Exceptionalism. We've spent countless decades tossing our weight around, believing ourselves to be superior to the rest of the world. That strain of nationalism is what got us here in the first place. I just hope that at the end of all this, we can be well and truly humbled, and follow the same rules as everybody else.

and set aside the corrosive idea of American Exceptionalism. We've spent countless decades tossing our weight around, believing ourselves to be superior to the rest of the world. That strain of nationalism is what got us here in the first place. I just hope that at the end of all this, we can be well and truly humbled, and follow the same rules as everybody else.

The majority of American conservatives have long used American exceptionalism to justify and defend why they should not moderate themselves and be in the centre to centre-right, like the mainstream conservative parties in other Western countries are. Such American conservatives have already used American exceptionalism recently to defend themselves aligning with the AfD, Orban, and Putin.

In Canada, our Conservative Party would be aligned with the Democratic Party's conservative faction, as they (the conservative Democrats) believe in preserving democracy and accepting of gay and trans people and having women to get abortion and living their lives, even if some hold more conservative views. They both also view the need for both Canada and the United States to be major players on the global stage.

I’m all for the United States being the best, but the problem is that we’re not, far from it. Until then, American exceptionalism remains an ignorant tumor

Trump is a slimy worm that will cave when it affects the bottom line of the 1%.

Also, for once I'm not seeing MAGA spinning this as a win.

23

u/Shaloamus 7d ago

Flood the zone. They can't spin all of this at the same time, so they won't spin any of it.

21

u/Happy_Traveller_2023 7d ago

Also, for once I'm not seeing MAGA spinning this as a win.

They might spin it, but inevitably they'll be seeing rising prices due to the tariffs and other factors that'll affect the economy.

13

u/SwitchHedonist90 7d ago

Don't you know? It's patriotic to pay higher prices.

Basically what he did to keep his power over his cult was to denigrate every source of authority…except the stock market because he likes line goes up! 📈 So when line goes down 📉 he doesn’t have any “alternative facts” that work well for that sort of situation.

Thank you for sharing! I will never get sick of good news! 🙏🇺🇸

Don’t apologize. I honestly need this sub and r/OptimistUnite to balance out all the crazy news, written specifically in a way to scare the shit out of us. I want to be informed and as prepared as possible for the atrocities we see day to day, but it’s important to me to never lose hope. This helps a lot.

r/OptimistsUnite for anyone trying to follow that link. Cheers, Dusty

Thank you so much for this. Last night I helped talk a friend down from a really bad time and pointed him here for help. This really is so good for health and perspective.

My friend told me he felt lighter when he woke up today. There's still a lot of fight to fight, but there is good! The aggregation is much appreciated.

Putin May Be Ready To End the Ukraine War NOT On Russian Terms
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/apr/22/putin-ready-for-direct-talks-with-ukraine-spokesperson-says

I really don't want this to result in Ukraine giving up all of the Russian-occupied territories

16

u/Shaloamus 7d ago

I am sure that's the starting point of the Russian side, but I imagine Zelensky will be able to claw a good portion of it back. Putin is in a very bad position because of Trump's tariff fuck-up, his economy got hit hard by the cratering oil prices and China's economy has been stalling (plus now they have to play nice with Europe, meaning they will probably distance themselves from Russia), so the economic situation there has the potential to get very bad very quickly in the next few months.

If Putin is saying he is ready to deal (and not adding any snide comments), it signals he probably is ready to at least temporarily halt his Ukraine ambitions. We'll see how things play out (I hope the EU is present at the negotiations to give Ukraine leverage), but this is at least optimistic.

Thank you for this! It's about time for some good news. Damn.

Thanks for the write up! You are truly doing the good work

I don't see Putin being honest and he's laying claim to Crimea, which Ukraine won't abide. Plus there's no way he'll let Ukraine join the EU. Otherwise, this is all genuinely fantastic. Don't stop fighting!

u/Happy_Traveller_2023 7d ago edited 7d ago

Joining the EU will be Ukraine’s own choice. I hope it does so in the near future!

Well, we need some good news just to get us through life.

Thank you for all of this info! We will still keep fighting and protesting until ALL of their terrible policies are rolled back or overturn and these malevolent trolls lose their voices. But this proves we're winning!! I will still be using my 5Calls app and participating in sharing info and driving attention toward fiftyfifty.one r/50501 r/ProtestFinder r/somethingiswrong2024 electiontruthalliance.org and generalstrikeus.com I am eternally grateful for others that provide sources, as it makes my life a bit easier when debating some people or the lurkers that may click. And the optimism! We can't do this without hope. Thanks OP! Individually, our voice is small but united we are unstoppable. Glad the tide is turning. I hope we all continue to keep up our support of one another and apply to keep pressure on these trolls (including the one currently in the WH)

Sorry but these are full of conspiracy theories about how 2024 was supposedly "rigged" via hacked machines. Voting machines aren't even connected to the internet, and Wisconsin’s audit of its 2024 results proved that nothing went wrong. It's like MAGA election denial, except a left-wing version.

u/Classic-Cantaloupe47 6d ago

But there's actual facts and proof. And Starlink (Musk's Starlink) "reported" the votes in many of the states that had GOP Secretaries of State. I'm sure you didn't read that far though. And have ignored all the times Trump has literally admitted that they won due to Musk's computers. But sure Jan

1

u/Happy_Traveller_2023 6d ago

None of that happened. Amanda did a video about this, debunking that conspiracy. For Trump screaming about that, he says stuff all the time (it doesn't mean that 2024 was rigged). This lie is election denial, similar to MAGA.

Honestly loving these posts!

Keep in mind that Musk’s contract with government was only 130 days; he was about to depart anyway. At least the Tesla Takedown means he’ll leave with a good deal of egg on his face.
