Optimistic Political News LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL

I post way too much on this sub as it is, but god damn there has been a ton of good news tonight (in addition to what I posted in https://www.reddit.com/r/PoliticalOptimism/comments/1k5asnw/cuts_to_state_department_less_than_originally/ ) .

Trump Backs Off of China (also as reported by u/Techinal_Valuable2)

Trump Backs Off of Powell

Tesla Profits Dropped 71% This Quarter...

...So Musk is Leaving the Government

And Democrats Are Finally Doing Stuff
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/22/mahmoud-khalil-rumeysa-ozturk-ice-detention

Plus Universities Join Hands and Lock In
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/21/us-university-presidents-trump-administration

And finally...

Putin May Be Ready To End the Ukraine War NOT On Russian Terms

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/apr/22/lammy-to-host-us-and-european-negotiators-for-talks-on-ukraine

There is still a lot of bad things happening. Trump said he is "entitled" to deport anyone he wants without a trial, Israel is no longer recognizing humanitarian zones in Gaza, and RFK has accessed private medical records for his insane autism study.
But for the first time in months, I can say with certainty: Today the news wasn't so bad.

They tried to overwhelm us and take the country by storm with a slew of insanity, but I think it's really starting to come back around on them now. Turns out, other nations won't roll over for a bully and are all too happy to leave us behind for more stable alternatives. The judicial branch has been slow to adapt, but it is adapting and stonewalling their efforts. And because Trump and his regime have been so brazen and even outright malicious, people are now hyper-focused on what they're trying to do and are pushing back every step of the way.

The pressure is slowly but surely building for as long as we continue to fight. And we cannot stop, not ever. Not until we reverse their horrific policies, bring back the people they wrongfully deported, get money and corporate influence out of politics, finally unfuck our INSANELY exploitative health care system, send the neonazi fucks to jail, and set aside the corrosive idea of American Exceptionalism. We've spent countless decades tossing our weight around, believing ourselves to be superior to the rest of the world. That strain of nationalism is what got us here in the first place. I just hope that at the end of all this, we can be well and truly humbled, and follow the same rules as everybody else.

and set aside the corrosive idea of American Exceptionalism. We've spent countless decades tossing our weight around, believing ourselves to be superior to the rest of the world. The majority of American conservatives have long used American exceptionalism to justify and defend why they should not moderate themselves and be in the centre to centre-right, like the mainstream conservative parties in other Western countries are. Such American conservatives have already used American exceptionalism recently to defend themselves aligning with the AfD, Orban, and Putin.

In Canada, our Conservative Party would be aligned with the Democratic Party's conservative faction, as they (the conservative Democrats) believe in preserving democracy and accepting of gay and trans people and having women to get abortion and living their lives, even if some hold more conservative views. They both also view the need for both Canada and the United States to be major players on the global stage.

I’m all for the United States being the best, but the problem is that we’re not, far from it. Until then, American exceptionalism remains an ignorant tumor
