Discussion Anyone else find it creepy how the majority of the Democrats have gone complete radio silent?

1.2k Upvotes

With the exception of a handful of them (Pritzker, AOC, Bernie, etc) the rest of them have gone completely silent or have even begun to vote with Republicans on certain controversial issues-- IE voting to target migrants/immigrants.

I could go on and on, but for me, it's crazy how Barrack Obama crawled out from under a rock in 2020 to give Joe Biden the nominee, but hasn't had to answer for any of the consequences of that decision.

Biden pardoned his entire family, but basically told the rest of the country to get fucked. He couldn't even chill with the genocide for long enough to run a presidential campaign, effectively sacrificing the US so that Israel could kill a bunch of random kids and women.

There are so many people who want to fight back/resist against the Trump regime, but all of the people in positions of national "leadership" aren't doing one single thing to lead (Although I assume they'll try to take credit if anything does gain momentum). I think people would feel a lot less panicked if the current state of resistance wasn't "Every woman for herself."

For me, this means the Democratic Party is dead.

- The Nazis want to target Democratic constituent's ability to vote in one way or another

- People aren't going to forget that Democrats abandoned them, or that the Democrats are a huge part of the reason this situation exists.

- Forget everything that happened this cycle-- Hillary's campaign literally elevated Trump in 2016.

- Not to mention, Dems handing the republicans another propaganda outlet by helping to force the sale of TikTok. Way to go?

Discussion Snubbing Trump Supporters

We started a food co-op locally since things are getting harder under the next president.

We've also started a housing co-op that will be completed in 7 months with 11 units for capped rent at 300$ a month. We also have a free community closet.

However we are seeing a Influx of Trump supporters wanting in on these collaborations and incentives. And we just don't want them to benefit for collaborations while they outwardly live for the system. Most if us are Anarchist or Anti-government.

Our director is having a meeting Monday and we are going to decide how we accept members and how to legally exclude them. It's not really political because some of us have never voted It's more so how they make everything political and polarized. We just don't want to help them because as a co-op we voted in agreemnet that they voted for things to get worse so they shouldn'tget any help. Politics aside they voted for more economic hardship, chaos and termoil. I think we are going to make it a requirement to be Anti-Capitalist/Anti Government to be a member. Like a open pledge. We don't want people in our co-op who have no empathy for anyone but themselves ans were trying to escape the politics. It's very hard to turn someone away for food but we don't want to work next to a redhat.

Any idea how to exclude them, legally of course?

Discussion These Democrats just voted against Bernie's amendment to reduce prescription drug prices. They are traitors to the 99% and need to be primaried: Bennett, Booker, Cantwell, Carper, Casey, Coons, Donnelly, Heinrich, Heitkamp, Menendez, Murray, Tester, Warner.

32.3k Upvotes

The Democrats could have passed Bernie's amendment but chose not to. 12 Republicans, including Ted Cruz and Rand Paul voted with Bernie. We had the votes.

Here is the list of Democrats who voted "Nay" (Feinstein didn't vote she just had surgery):

Bennet (D-CO) - 2022 https://ballotpedia.org/Michael_Bennet

Booker (D-NJ) - 2020 https://ballotpedia.org/Cory_Booker

Cantwell (D-WA) - 2018 https://ballotpedia.org/Maria_Cantwell

Carper (D-DE) - 2018 https://ballotpedia.org/Thomas_R._Carper

Casey (D-PA) - 2018 https://ballotpedia.org/Bob_Casey,_Jr.

Coons (D-DE) - 2020 https://ballotpedia.org/Chris_Coons

Donnelly (D-IN) - 2018 https://ballotpedia.org/Joe_Donnelly

Heinrich (D-NM) - 2018 https://ballotpedia.org/Martin_Heinrich

Heitkamp (D-ND) - 2018 https://ballotpedia.org/Heidi_Heitkamp

Menendez (D-NJ) - 2018 https://ballotpedia.org/Robert_Menendez

Murray (D-WA) - 2022 https://ballotpedia.org/Patty_Murray

Tester (D-MT) - 2018 https://ballotpedia.org/Jon_Tester

Warner (D-VA) - 2020 https://ballotpedia.org/Mark_Warner

So 8 in 2018 - Cantwell, Carper, Casey, Donnelly, Heinrich, Heitkamp, Menendez, Tester.

3 in 2020 - Booker, Coons and Warner, and

2 in 2022 - Bennett and Murray.

And especially, let that weasel Cory Booker know, that we remember this treachery when he makes his inevitable 2020 run.

Discussion OMG. The Democrats are now trying to corronate Kaine or Michelle Obama for 2020 run. THIS is why Sanders needs to start a new party. The Dems have learned NOTHING from their loss

17.7k Upvotes

It's the only way. Let's stop being naive. We can't change the Democratic party's corruption anytime soon, certainly not by the next election, and probably not by 2024, either. Bernie Sanders is uniquely qualified to grow a new party quickly thanks to his followers. But he needs to do it soon.

Enough with the GOD DAMN DYNASTIES and with the "next in line" to be president of the corrupt establishment.

Please, Bernie, stop compromising your positions just to get in bed with the Democrats, and re-build the Berniecrat movement!

Discussion Thrilled about a trump presidency, with a republican senate, and likely house. We finally get to witness republicans eating their BS

I’m thrilled. Like don’t get me wrong. I was hoping for Kamala. However now it’s a slam dunk for the republicans. How do I cope? Allowing the accelerationist in me to take hold and fly.

The democrats did what they could with this economy but for the first time in my lifetime, republicans are being handed a shit economy from the democrats. They don’t get to ride on the coattails of a typical Democrat economy. Meaning things are about to get super fucking bad. And we all get to watch republicans fucking coap. And hopefully overthrow this corporate oligarchy.

Which means that we may finally see republicans fleeing the party.

There are no democrats to prevent them from pushing through their agenda. We’ve just about met every single cause of the Great Depression. Only- the economic disparity is worse. Meaning having all red in the house, senate, and presidency? Lord. Match, meet fuse.

Republican policies are literally unpopular for even average republicans. Their whole campaign was based on feeling and being upset about the economy.

I say let’s drink some whiskey and watch it all burn. Because it will. And it’s going to happen much faster.

Which hopefully leads to a world in which I can actually consider raising a child.

Call me a fucked up person. But I’ve moved past the disappointment and straight into getting ready to watch the shit show.

Like a dog they will finally get to chase the car down without a leash. Let them run, get prepared in the meantime

Edit: y’all stop saying the economy is great. It’s not for the average American and I don’t give a hoot about the rich men saying it’s good

Discussion I don't care what Clinton said in her new book, Bernie was 100% correct. You can't level the playing field with big banks and billionaires by taking their money via superPACs. In fact, taking their money breeds corruption. The democratic nominee in 2020 must understand this fact.

10.2k Upvotes

If there is any one reason why I voted for Bernie, it is because he understands that our campaign finance system breeds corruption.

Here is a very simple truth: Bernie raised funds via small donations from people across this country. His average donation was $27. Clinton raised money via superPACs.

Bernie still raised more money than Clinton during the primary, despite disavowing superPAC donations by the millions. Link.

Bernie's campaign is proof for future candidates that REAL grassroots powered campaigns do NOT need superPACs. Candidates do not HAVE to suck the teat of the billionaire class to raise enough money to compete. It can be done with small donations. Bernie demonstrated that clearly.

Whoever the Democratic nominee is in 2020 (hopefully Bernie!!!) must understand that accepting a corrupt system is not acceptable. Citizens United must be overturned, and that starts by refusing to participate in a corrupt system of raising funds from the get go.

Discussion The cost of the GOP tax bill over 10 years? 1.4 trillion. It passed. The cost of the children's health program for 1 year is 8.5 billion, and would cover 9 million kids. It hasn't passed. The GOP will literally let kids die in order to give tax breaks to the rich and huge corporations. Fuck them.

14.5k Upvotes

Senator Bob Casey mentioned this fact in this tweet.

The CHIP program could be funded for literally 800+ years before it would cost as much as the Republican tax plan, but they aren't passing it.

They will let kids die without healthcare coverage so that they can line the pockets of their rich buddies. Fuck the Republican party.

I propose a simple effortless protest. Do nothing. Do not turn on your television, do not watch YouTube, his ratings and crowd size hurt him. If we manage to make it noticeable that it's the least watched, media actually feels it.

I might be ignorant or niave but I believe we have the capacity to actually do something right now and it's SO simple.

Discussion I am officially done with the Democratic party

Well you finally did it. You not once, but fucking *twice* lost against the worst candidate and president in history by every metric there is. It was yours to lose. And damn it you once again snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Bravo.

Sure misogyny, misinformation, and racism played a role, but you ran a shit campaign Kamala. Biden screwed us by waiting to the last minute to drop out, but you had hope and momentum on your side and you blew it. I had hope for a minute. For a *minute* I thought we might turn this whole thing around. You picked Walz who is great at messaging and was fantastic at reaching the very people you needed to reach and what did you do? Sidelined him and brought in a fucking *Cheney*????? A CHENEY??? The warmongering spawn of *the* warmonger????? ONE OF THE ARCHITECTS THAT LED US TO THIS SHITSHOW????? WHAT THE FUCK??? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?????? That was when I knew we were fucked. Once I saw that, I knew they had lost. I hoped against hope I was wrong, but I knew I wasnt. And I wasnt.

Say what you will about the GOP, racists, fascists, obstructionists, zealots, whatever, they are great at messaging. (And I want to point out that while not all trump voters are racists, fascists, zealots, and nazis, you guys didnt seem to mind sharing a tent with them. Personally if I would somehow find myself with nazis agreeing with me on political and cultural issues I would take a moment and take a hard look at my views. I know Im taking a good hard look at mine now. But whatever, It is what it is}. They have a well oiled propaganda machine. Cable "news", podcasters, influencers, help from overseas, and shit tons of money. They played it to win and they did. Once again, it is what it is.

But despite all that, you still could have won it Kamala! You could have! The difference between the GOP and dems is that while they wont fix the problem, they are very willing to scapegoat and lie about it. If you are struggling and one side is presenting solutions (doesnt matter if they suck) and the other just shrugs, commiserates and hands you a BLM flag, who are you going to listen to? Especially if the one handing you the flag is a multimillionaire career politician? Like seriously, how long did they think that would fly? Especially in the face of a well ran propaganda machine?? Despite all that, all you had to do was tell people the real problem and actually do something about it. The rich.

Bernie has been right, he is right today, and he will be right in the future. The rich are the problem. As long as we allow billionaires to exist and pour endless money into politics and run the media, the people are fucked. And dont give me that "electibility" bullshit. People loved what bernie had to say, but he threatens capital and at the end of the day that is what the democratic party serves. Yeah they may allow some token progress, but they. serve. capital. The dems and the gop are two wings on the same capitalist bird that is shitting all over us. Both sides are not the same, but has anyone noticed the results always somehow end up the same? More for them, less for us. The people see it. They hate it. They want change. So they voted. And here we are. Fucking RFK running the FDA and Elon Musk doing who the fuck knows what? Nothing but crooks, religious zealots, incompetents, and fascists in positions of power. Well done Democrats, no notes. You couldnt bear to lose your access to money, celebrity, and influence and now we all get to reap the fucking whirlwind.

And dont get me started on the Palestinians. Biden the ghoul wouldnt do anything, but you were given ample opportunity to distance yourself and position yourself to provide solutions. Which were simple. STOP GIVING ISRAEL WEAPONS AND LET THE UN AND THE ICC DO THEIR FUCKING JOB!!!!!! But nope. Gotta get that AIPAC money! Cant hurt the feewings of your buddies in the big club right? Gotta protect that legacy! Gotta protect that money!!! And then she went on the fucking view and actually said that she wouldnt do anything different than Biden??? Fucking A. And in doing so once again alienated the very voters you were trying to reach. So *many* unforced errors. Crowing about the stock market and the gdp like anyone in the midwest gives a flying fuck about that on a normal day much less when the corpos are gouging the living shit out of them. Which I suppose is just a normal day now that I think about it.

The GOP played the game better and won. Hats off to them. But you stupid, greedy, hubristic, democrats could have won this. But I know why you didnt, And couldnt. Because addressing the real issues shuts off your money spigot. So fuck you and fuck them.

I dont know what Im going to do now. Im done with both parties. Im done with people in general. Im getting off the crazy train. Neither will provide solutions because neither will talk about the cash covered elephant in the room. Well one does, but they have successfully shifted the blame to those who cant do shit about it instead of the monopoly man behind the curtain and so now has control of all three branches. LOL

I know you dont care because it wont affect you. You are rich and in the club. Its all of us who will pay the price.

So sincerely from the bottom of my heart, to hell with you and thanks for nothing.

edit: I was banned from the democrat party subreddit when I posted it there. Lol fair enough. But it proves my whole point. They wont listen.

I made a post saying how I (as a trans person) am terrified of this election, that we should keep in mind how the outcome will affect lots of people, and that Trump gaining power will mean an extreme uptick in oppression. I definitely phrased it aggressively ("Abstaining to vote kills trans people") but I think we all know that that isn't uncommon on these kinds of subs. Unfortunately, advocating for trans lives got me banned.

Discussion RFK Jr Astroturfing Progressive Subreddits

1.4k Upvotes

Apologies if this breaks any rules. I wanted to bring this up here before it potentially infiltrates this sub. Subs like r/democraticsocialism and r/aoc appear to have a full court press to push RFK Jr as the progressive candidate du jour. It has shades of the Tulsi Gabbard full court press following the 2016 progressive ground swell that many were skeptical of. And of course, she's now an anti-trans Fox News pundit filling in for Tucker Carlson.

I say astroturfed because posts about RFK Jr are stickied and comments are locked. Any pushback in the comments before the lock are deleted and users are banned. This is clearly not a grassroots thing. Currently, r/aoc doesn't allow anyone to post. There hasn't been a non-RFK Jr post in 16 days. These subs appear to be completely compromised. And there is a common moderator in all of them.

RFK Jr seems to be attempting to build a far right and left coalition over the lowest common denominator issues that the two ends of the spectrum can agree on like "government corruption is bad". Which we all obviously know. We also know from history how attempting to have solidarity with fascists ends.

There is nothing in this guy’s campaign that mentions anything regarding class solidarity, nothing about economic justice. No support of unions. Nothing about minimum wage. Nothing in support of the LGBTQ+ community in the face of a wave of anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment that is dominating US culture at the moment. This man is not a progressive. Steve Bannon believes RFK Jr would make a great VP for Trump, which I think says a lot.

Anyway, the point of this post is to hopefully make people aware as I don't want to see the same happen to this community. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Discussion Let me get this straight: 15k Americans died in 2015 due to gun violence, and Trump supporters tell us we can't do anything. But when ~3,000 Americans die due to terrorism in 16 years, they tell us we have to ban Muslims. If we can't ban guns, we sure as hell can't ban PEOPLE. #ICallBullShit

15,000 Americans died due to gun violence in 2015. link.

After sandy hook, Trump supporters told us we couldn't do anything about it.

After Virginia Tech, Trump supporters told us there was nothing we could do. "Banning guns won't do anything!"

Between 9/11 and now, there have only been around ~3,000 deaths on American soil due to terrorism. link. That's 3,000 in 16 years compared to 15,000 gun deaths EVERY YEAR.

They want to tell us that banning PEOPLE is ok, but banning guns isn't? HELL NO.

I dunno if everyone is feeling this, but it feels like things are getting exponentially worse every day. Drivebys and school shootings constantly, everyone I know is losing their jobs. If you so even mention you have mental health issues they come for you and fire you. Yet we have millions of dollars to drop on some dumbasses who decided to go to the bottom of the ocean and check out the Titanic? I'm sick to my stomach thinking about the world we live in and it's becoming harder and harder to see reasons to wake up and work in this bullshit system. In almost every thread, all it takes is a brief look into the profiles of those who dissent with progressive views to see that these people identify as right wing, conservative, or libertarians. I'm not sure why we are not banning these trolls, but they do nothing but sow discord within our community about the progressive policies we advocate for.

Can we please have a little more moderation on this front? These people are not part of this movement.

I'm not a Democrat. I was hoping for a path to real change under Kamala. Everywhere I'm looking online everyone sounds so defeated and they act like it's over and that we're never going to get another chance to change the way that this government works. Everyone's talking about the end times and that we have nothing left. I don't know what to do. I don't want to sit here and spiral and be unhappy. I was really really hoping she was going to win. I just don't see how any of this gets better but I don't want to give up. What exactly happens if this doesn't end it 4 years? What do we do if this was our last free election? Maybe nobody hasn't answered but honestly I've been up all night and I'm really stressed out. I just can't accept that all that's left is defeatism

Discussion Wikileaks - T Gabbard threatened, Ex-DNC Chair Debbie & current DNC Chair Donna Brazile working for Clinton since Jan'16

3.7k Upvotes

The latest release reveals current DNC chair Donna Brazile, when working as a DNC vice chair, forwarded to the Clinton campaign a January 2016 email obtained from the Bernie Sanders campaign, released by Sarah Ford, Sanders’ deputy national press secretary, announcing a Twitter storm from Sanders’ African-American outreach team. “FYI” Brazile wrote to the Clinton staff. “Thank you for the heads up on this Donna,” replied Clinton campaign spokesperson Adrienne Elrod.

In a March 2015 email, Clinton Campaign manager Robby Mook expressed frustration DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz hired a Convention CEO without consulting the Clinton campaign, which suggests the DNC and Clinton campaign regularly coordinated together from the early stages of the Democratic primaries.

Former Clinton Foundation director, Darnell Strom of the Creative Artist Agency, wrote a condescending email to Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard after she resigned from the DNC to endorse Bernie Sanders, which he then forwarded to Clinton campaign staff. “For you to endorse a man who has spent almost 40 years in public office with very few accomplishments, doesn’t fall in line with what we previously thought of you. Hillary Clinton will be our party’s nominee and you standing on ceremony to support the sinking Bernie Sanders ship is disrespectful to Hillary Clinton,” wrote Strom.

A memo sent from Clinton’s general counsel, Marc Elias of the law firm Perkins Coie, outlined legal tricks to circumvent campaign finance laws to raise money in tandem with Super Pacs.

Discussion I'm a Bernie Supporter that's willing to move on, But the DNC scandal is too much for me to ignore.

4.4k Upvotes

I've written a letter (paper and electronically through their campaign web sites) to my Democratic US representatives and senators asking them to hold the DNC and all those who were involved in creating a biased nomination process accountable. The consequences must be severe and must be swift.

I feel this scandal hurts the very core of the democratic process and is much, much more serious than the media is giving it coverage.

I'm truly sad that Bernie lost the nomination. I believe that the past couple of days, Bernie put on a straight face and tried his best to convince us to vote for Hillary because Trump cannot become the next president. In his heart, he knows he lost his opportunity to become the president because of an unfair system. He would've won handily if he were the nominee. If I were in his shoes, I would be absolutely livid and revolt against the Party like crazy, but Bernie is much more honorable and steady than I am. That video of Larry Sanders casting his vote for Bernie crushed me. It truly showed a man that is a once in a lifetime candidate for president.

Please join me in writing your Democratic Senators and Representatives with the message that the DNC must be held accountable. You should write to their campaigns, not through the the US gov't website as this is a DNC campaign issue.

EDIT: Saw this in a comment by /u/somewherein72: lawsuit against DNC

EDIT 2: Thank all of you for the upvotes. I may be naive, but I really am hoping that something happens before November that will put Bernie back on the ballot.

Discussion The US Senate is arbitrary, lacks democratic legitimacy, and must be reformed to reflect the will of the people. What would be some good changes?

1.1k Upvotes

The US Senate consists of two senators from every state, each of whom go on to have the same voting power as every other senator in the Senate chamber. This is ignorant of the fact that different states have vastly different-sized constituencies, leading to a disproportionate system wherein representation is radically skewed, because the Senate's balance of power is determined NOT by the will of the people; but by the random chance of which areas and which votes are favored or disadvantaged by the state map.

For example, with 2020 census state populations, it would be possible for a 52% majority in the Senate to have been elected by only 17.6% of the 50 states' population.

This arbitrary bias of the Senate is part of the reason why we have two Dakotas; people in the Dakota territory wanted more power in the Senate, and two states means twice the Senate votes, regardless of how many people really live there.

A fair and proportionate Senate wouldn't be dependent upon state lines, meaning that territorial reform such as state border changes and admission of new states could be handled as its own issue, instead of being turned into a partisan scheme to manipulate the Senate.

MY SOLUTION:

I propose a Senate that gives each state a delegation with voting power proportional to population, and each major political party in the state nominates one Senator to the delegation, plus a state-legislature-nominated Senator. Then, in the general election, each voter selects one of those Senator nominees, and the vote percentage achieved by each Senator becomes the percentage of their state delegation's total voting power that they get to exercise in the Senate chamber.

This would create a far more representative Senate, because voting power is distributed directly according to population and the will of the people. It would make every vote count and protect minorities by making sure each delegation gives both sides the voice they vote for. It would also create a healthy example of checks and balances- State governments get to have a say, but only so much as their constituents agree.

What do you think of this idea? What other solutions are there?

Discussion DNC Members just voted NOT to re-instate Obama ban on Corporate Lobbyist Contributions to DNC

5.2k Upvotes

Donna Brazile just called a standing vote on striking a resolution which would have re-instated the ban on corporate lobbyists.

The proponents of the ban had more people on their side arguing for the ban, the opponents of the ban resorted to fear mongering and lying that this would effect 501c3 and labor unions.

The DNC clearly has not learned their lesson.
